Spotted this one in a case, think it cost me $4, I like the shape of it, pretty nifty.

I like it. But one of my collecting "rules" is a windshield. Black windows / painted metal windows / colored plastic - I'll take them all, but the really old Matchbox models without any windows are off-limits for me to purchase. Not that it is a bad thing, because finding one that old for $4 is rare. The prices would normally keep me away, even if the lack of windshield was not an issue.

This is a Bedford van, if I am remembering correctly.

This is a Bedford van, if I am remembering correctly.

It is, a Bedford CA. It used many contemporary Vauxhall car parts. Advanced for its time and popular as a camper before VW got on the scene.

They were very popular until the Ford Transit was introduced.

I think spare signs and transfers are available if you wanted to restore it.

My pair of Bedford Evening News vans - one with grey wheels and one with black wheels.

I recall my father had to explain to me the difference between English football and US football and that these vans, of course, were advertising the scores for the English version and not the latest Packers-Bears game.

This model is still missing from my collection. I have not been able to find a nice variation at a reasonable price. Some day... :P

But that's the beauty of it....the simple "Football Results" works for both markets. In a child's imagination-land, it could have been the Packers-Bears game!

I like how it looks with the black wheels.

The sign on top explains the diagonal line across the roof in the first pic. I like these. Very interesting pieces.
