In a recent COTD thread, Wes made a remark about how similar the Yatming and Road Champs large off road wheels look. See link for the post - http://swiftysgarage.net/topic/6937633/1/#new With that in mind, here's a pic thread of the off road 4x4 trucks & SUVs in my collection. The Mustang II is a Mustang too!

I think Matchbox's came first (specifically the Blazer) and everyone else jumped on that with 'me too!' wheels. The only one I'm not sure about it being released before is the Kidco. And by then they were the same company (Universal)... |

I dunno...I've got another theory. I think they all buy from the same maker. |

That's what I was about to say. Small changes perhaps to cut back on cost or in reaction to supply...there is just too much similarity for them to simply be copies. |

I always thought similarly, where as the less popular brands don't bother much with R&D for wheel designs when they can just copy the designs of the big name companies that already put their money and effort into coming up with some decent looking ones. |

The blue "Evil Rider" is a copy of the Matchbox Blazer made by Faie. They go under the name Swiftrunner. |

I do not know the correct definition, but one Matchbox website, the guy calls this wheel style the "Maltese cross". |

What a nice looking group of trucks and a great comparison. I like the older Hot Wheels and Matchbox wheels a lot (and all the copies), the newer styles look too blingy. Glad this got bumped, I have a Realtoy Hummer 4 door hardtop pickup and never knew who made it. |
