I have a friend at work that has a massive collection of old ford and chevy service trucks and etc. The other night he brought in a 55 Chevy Truck made by Matchbox and it's cost ten years ago was like 55 dollars. It was beautifully built but we were going to look it up on ebay and couldn't find it. Very detailed piece with excellent quality. Anyone out there know what I'm talking about. It was a highly prestige piece. He said there was about 6 of these in a set. We wanted to know how much it was worth. |

I vaguely remember those being offered, used to have mail-in sheets in the newspapers and sometimes in the junkmail flyers. $55 sounds about right, which is why I never bought any, seems to me they were larger scale too, 1/43 or so. Very nicely done, no doubt, excellent detail and all. As for current value I have no idea, not a scale I collect and I haven't seen very many even cross my path. Not many were made I would wager, but that by itself is no indication of value...I would guess probably close to around the price paid, $50-60 on a good day. |

Danny, follow this link to eBay there are a few listed now. They were also know as Matchbox Collectibles (1/43 scale models). They were advertised in TV Guide and other magazines at the time. You can check completed items to see what the models recently sold for. Wow...to see so many of them in one place, and a sizeable portion starting around $5. If I collected 1/43 I'd have to give some of those serious consideration now! |

I care what scale it is as long as it looks good. Wesley I have one Racing Champion ford truck that is way over 1/64 scale but not 1/43 either but she's pretty. |

I collected the Matchbox Collectibles back in the 90's. All in 1/43 scale. Yes, they were highly detailed and came out in a number of series. I went for the F 100 Fords and a few Chevy 3100 pickups, all were themed, with Tyre Service, Genuine Ford Parts etc. Also included in a Fire Units series. Not sure about Stateside, but we paid $39.75 plus postage for them here back then, and one came out each month. Sadly there were literally thousands of them sold, so even in a good market today, you would be lucky to get better than $50 - 60 for them, then only if mint, boxed and with a COA. Some examples did hold value. There was a Christmas truck, a fire Dept truck with a dog in the back, a Genuine Ford parts pickup with engine blocks in the rear and a Ford F 100 van in Civil Defense livery. A rarity is one with TUCKERS store livery, which had a loose ladder with it. Also one with a snowplough on the front. Most had very small accessory items that could be lost easily, hence affecting the value. Any of these last mentioned could go for upwards of $80 - 90 I have most in storage, but will dig them out and post them over the weekend, it's about time I did another garage diorama scene. Here's a few of mine that I converted to a "service fleet" by interchanging loads in the pickup beds.

Those are really nice, George! Thanks for the update on values. 1/43 is much more popular outside of the States, I should have guessed these sold better elsewhere. And I agree about having the box, parts, accessories and paperwork...losing any of them decreases the value substantially. Edited by juantoo3, Jul 26 2012, 09:02 AM.
