Re the question about values of the Matchbox Collectibles F 100's. I have a number of them and will post them over the next few days with approx. values in Australia. Our $ is doing OK against the greenback so I figure the values should be about the same, depending on availability. They are a great casting to collect, high level of detail and if you are of the mind, easy to convert to a differant theme, using parts from other models. ie, the tyre service load fits any other MB F 100 with minimum work, and more importantly no damage. Just a reassemble. One I have, of note, is this one pictured. It's actually from their Platinum series and depicts the boxer, Rocky Marciano, with a stamp bearing his likeness on the pick up bed cover. I got this back about 2 years ago, on Ebay, for $25.00 US plus postage. There were no other bidders, which I thought strange. It's mint in box, with certificate of authenticity etc. It's a weird colour scheme, but it has grown on me. Have shown it to some fellow collectors who had never seen one before, and recently knocked back an offer of Au $60.00, for it. So some are definately an investment. |

Man those trucks have beautiful paint and excellent detail. Are those all the 1/43? I personally think trucks don't get any better than this. |

Yes, these are 1/43 scale, and I think that assists with the ability to have such great detail. The first picture here is the Civil Defence Truck, the Fire Tender and the Fire Chiefs pickup. Detail on all is great, the Civil defence truck has so much on it that it is just fun to play with. I have seen similar types of vehicles for local emergency services etc around town and this is pretty much true to the mark. One issue with it is that the fittings, whilst glued I would say at the factory, do tend to snap easily. The ladder assembly unclips, and it's easy to damage the mount. The front winch assembly can also be an issue. MIB and with Certificates, these can fetch upwards of $80.00, but it would need to be a keen collector. The Fire Tender, is just really nice, we didn't have such a thing over here, but I have seen photos of US versions and it does look the part. Exceptional detail to the rear equipment area, but the chrome rails damage easily, so have a good look before buying one. Again $70.00 to $80.00. MIB. The Fire Chiefs Pickup has amazing detail in the rear with an assortment of tools and equipment. But it also has two dogs, Dalmations, a large and a small one. They have even placed a Fire extinguisher on the front seat. The decals on the door can damage and the spotlights and mirrors dislodge easily. MIB $ 75.00 to $85.00. Second photo is the Red Crown Gasoline pickup, fantasic graphics and the sun visor set it off. Note the differant numbers on the pickup bed cover, (which should 'click' into place and hold the tailgate shut). Story has it, and it sort of makes sense, that the pickup came out with "Route 66" originally and there was some sort of licensing problem, so then it was changed to "Route 84". Ironically the "Route 84" now seems the hardest to find and attracts the better $'s. All of the F 100's had rear bumpers that were prone to breakage on the ends, as well as the spot lights and mirror problems.. These are all my display pieces, and I have doubles (and triples) packed away still mint in boxes. Hope you enjoy the post. |

These two are unusual, the snow plough has actually got chains on the rear tyres, again great detail all around, especially the equipment in the pick up bed. The plough mountings are where the front bumper should be, it doesn't have one, and they are prone to breaking off there. Have seen them move for anywhere between $40.00 and $80.00. The other is, I think , a Pennsylvania Rail Road tender vehicle, PRR, it has the rail wheels mounted front and rear so it can run on the rail tracks. The equipment in the back is typical of these models, but again can be easily damaged. These seem less popular than the standard pickups and I have seen them advertised quite cheaply on Ebay. So a good chance to pick up something quite unique if you wanted to. Down here they range from mid $30.00 start price up to $80.00 plus. I recently let one of the RR pickups go for $65.00 at a local swap meet. Not MIb bit with a COA. The guy was very happy, he was a model railroader, and I feel he got the best part of the deal. More later............... |

Continuing with the MB F 100's, first up is the 50th Anniversary Pickup. Looks good with the Gold trim and pick up bed cover. You would think these would have some value, but again, there were thousands made. Celebrating the 50 years of the F Series, it's still a nice piece to have in your collection. Au$45 - 60. The other is the McDonalds Pickup, not a fan of decals/tampos that aren't automotive related, so I only bought this as a curiosity piece. It's growing on me, but I don't have it on display with my other MB Fords. There were a number of them came out with Coke and a few other things I can't recall off the top. I have a few packed away. Again about Au$40.00. Interestingly MB did put out a F 100 for one of the local swap meets over here. An annual event, it would be close to being the biggest swap meet in Australia. It is the BENDIGO Swap meet, and that particular F 100 is very hard to find. Not sure of numbers but I believe it was limited, possibly around 2000 units. There has been one on Au Ebay for $80.00 for some time now and no takers. A touch out of my league for a purchase, but if I move some of my extras I may be tempted. |
