Matchbox Collector

When I heard that Matchbox would be coming out with a new Holden model, I was ecstatic, because we haven't seen many Holden's in the line-up, not recently. Fun Fact about the Holden, Matchbox was going to make it the Pontiac G8 pickup, but because they went bust, they chose the Australian variant. Anyways, I was really actually disappointed when the model itself came out, because it did not live up to my expectations. The casting just didn't look right, mostly because it was rushed to be made from the change-over from the Pontiac front fascia to the Holden's. There were also some licensing issues that were luckily resolved. And all of this showed in the casting. Look at the front here: Compared to the real thing: ![]() Look at the lights on the Matchbox. Waaay too thin, and blacked out compared to the real lights. The front fender and splitter comes down too low and the wheel arches flare out ginormously compared to the actual Holden. The wheels are also too big. The vents under the lights that hold the fog lights also seem too large as well. I was just so disappointed in the casting, and it didn't live up to my expectations. I know it seems really picky, but this always irked me and I wanted to share my thoughts and concerns. Does the rest of the community feel as if this models casting is off, even if just a little? (Oh, and by the way, the rest of the casting is fantastic!)

Support your local demo derby.

While the front might be off it's not enough to have bothered me from buying the four stock issues thus far. As with most $1 type of toy cars, some points on the car will be emphasized over others. These are toys after all. |

Probably because I've never seen a real one in person, I didn't even notice it was off at all. Never knew this one was supposed to be the G8 truck- cool fact to know! Here's the G8 and you can see the fender flares are a match for the Matchbox: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/e/e0/2010_Pontiac_G8_Sport_Truck.jpg |

And the irony is Holden used up the left over Pontiac parts by releasing limited edition Holden SSV sedans, wagons and utes which look just like Pontiacs. |

Three words: Chevrolet El Camino Which is what they should have done in the first place instead of trying to market a pickup as a Pontiac. Seriously, the G8 Sport Truck had no place in Pontiac's lineup. Chevy should have gotten a Camino and let Pontiac have a Firebird instead of Chevy getting a Camaro. Of course what do I know? I'm just a car guy. I've never run an automaker into bankruptcy so I must know nothing... ![]() I know Jalopnik tried getting GM to build it via a petition but I think it fell short of the 100,000 signatures GM wanted to seriously consider it. *Sighs* Which is a pity because this is exactly what GM needs to be building. There's no such thing as a "compact pickup truck" available in the USA any more. Here's a great solution to that! |

While many would laud the arrival of a new El Camino, only about 3 people would actually buy one. GM, for all its idiocy, knows this, and it will never happen. |
