I had a free evening as the wife was going out, so I popped by a not-so-local hobby shop on the way home that carries just about anything in planes, trains, and autos, also having JL . Their prices have come down a bit, so they're competitive with Toys R Us now to me.Anyway, found 3 gold 57 Chevy Hearses, a couple Jeep Cherokee's in different colors, and 3 of the 3-pack D of Hazzard cars. I got the one with the General, Daisy's car, and the white police car for $8. Another pack had Cooters Camaro in it. Not a bad night for JL.

Is the 3 pack actual JLs or the older ERTL/RC castings? The Jeeps seem to be hot right now. Congrats.

Nice finds! I'm curious if the Dukes three-packs have Tomy on them (on the base or the packaging).

Picture coming up! <loading......done> Yes, these are the older Racing Champion and Ertl castings, I can see that imprinted on the bases. BUT, this is a Tomy package, so it's a new release ( or re-release ). See the bottom right corner. Says All Rights reserved, 2011 date on back. Figured what the hey, I'd get a set, I like the Charger. :)

Jerry

Yes, the confederate flag is still on the roof on this release.

Beating a dead horse here, but I still dream of Boss' Caddy entering the JL line. Of course with better wheels and base. Imagine the possibilities of colors and wheels. Even a BWF would be awesome. Not near enough Cadillac representation in the JL casting bank.

Yep...but without the steer horns.

UPDATE on Dukes / Confederate flag issue :

I got an update via Facebook, a guy in Canada named Corey , who is the northern D of H fanatic, posted that Warner Brothers, who was planning on not allowing the flag to be displayed on the roof, has now backed down and will allow it to be on the car still. Apparently they received quite a bit of bad publicity about it from Dukes fans, and so have reversed their earlier decision ( for now ). For now, ol' Dixie will fly with her colors intact!

Now that is good news, When I heard that the flag was no more I was kind of upset with that stupid decision from WB.

The best south will be when we all reside under one flag and learn to live with each other in peace and be all one race the human race.

All,

I see two stories here: 1) the Johnny Lightning name used to sell "classic" Ertl castings from 1981(?) and 2) the use of a Confederate flag on the roof of the Hazzard Charger.

Story Number One: Tomy owns the JL name and can do with it what they please. Only time will tell what comes next.

Story Number Two
: As a son of The Deep South (Alabama and Tennessee) I saw the Confederate flag often and I didn't think much of it. Perhaps the Dukes creators didn't either. After all, 1979 was only 15 years after the Civil Rights Act of 1964. But today I think most of us know that even if the flag isn't offensive to us, it is to others. It's become a symbol of the most heinous part of the Old South. We have so many other things to be proud of...our hospitality, music, architecture, good manners, and so on.

And when we market toys to children, I think most of us would agree that it's wrong to legitimize insensitive and hateful symbols. But perhaps on larger scale adult collectible models the flag should remain since it's historically accurate to a famous TV car from the 1980s.

I'm very proud of my Southern heritage, but not of its lingering racist imagery. I believe it's time to move on.

Mac

*In Memory Of*
to bad a decal on one of the most beloved iconic cars of all time had to represent hatred, segragation, racism, and slavery. Just goes to show you how powerful an image can be. Would people feel the same way if the General Lee had a swastika on it?

I love dukes of hazzard and the general lee, but it makes ya think.

You can buy tons of decal sheets for model airplanes, tanks, ships, etc., that have swastiksas.
It was part of the color scheme and decorations of of those vehicles. Model enthusiasts use them all the time for historical accuaracy. I don't think that makes them racists, including me, and I have them in my model collection. I'm sure that offends some people, but history can't be changed by not using them.
Learn from history, not repeat it. Agree with Mac Ragan's opinions, time to move on.
But lawyers try to change history all the time! They also try to stop everything that is fun.
