Survivors; From a friends basement

I've just spent a month in Boston on vacation and my friend knew I collect diecast so dug these out of his mothers basement in Illinois where they've sat for 40 years or so.
He thought I'd like to see them and I thought they were worth sharing too.
Apart from a few chips on a couple of cars they have survived better than mine ever did. He was going to put them in his attic but I advised him that heat may effect the plastics as there has been a bit of shrinkage on the wheels already causing tires to come loose.

Wow!

So many nice ones I don't know where to begin. The yellow GT40 caught my eye. I don't know MBX very well, but I know that one's an alternate color. The Pontiac Grand Prix is a nice model, the purple is more desired but the red is no slouch by any means. Seeing the trailered boat behind the Rambler wagon is cool, and the Caravan behind the Pontiac is in very nice shape. I see several alternate colors on the open wheelers, and the old Ferrari open wheeler is a bit hard to come by too. The site hut truck still has its hut, the refrigerator truck still has its back doors...these were taken care of when they were played with, and I wonder if they were played with much at all. This is a very, very nice little collection. I would look up the gold Miura too, that one is the wildcard for me.

Actually, that wagon is a Studebaker Wagonaire with the sliding roof. Rambler never had one of those. Anyway, I agree, this is a FANTASTIC collection of survivors, the conditions are excellent ( love those 1964 Chevy Taxis ), and the race car hauler is the first time I've seen that one. I've got the green F1, but didn't know they had a hauler for it. Sweet.

You're right. Sometimes I mix up Studebaker and Rambler. I still think it's a great old MBX!

Your friend must have recieved a 1966 G-4 Grand Prix race set. It included the items pictured below. The #41 Yellow Ford Gt only came in this set. The orange Lotus and red BRM only came in this set and the 1968 G-4 Race and Ralley set that came later. I wonder if he still has the card stock race track still.

The Transporter came out originally as M-6 Racing car transporter in 1965 In the Major Pack line. In 1967 it was moved to the King Size line as K-5. The early transporters did not have a slot in the back door. A slot was added quickly with a tang on the car ramp. This helped hold the rear door closed. This is one of my favorite Major pack/King size trucks. I buy junkers of these with the idea of customizing them some day.

What a beautiful collection!

It's always one of those "Oh yeah, I used to collect toy cars." phrases, and then something gets dug out.

Definitely a time capsule, and even better on you for advising better storage options!
