Even with a plastic base I wonder how much heft this casting will have.

Opening tailgate, too? Cool! This is one I am eagerly looking forward to.

I hope eventually one will be done in white with fake woodgrain paneling. It seems every one of them I saw growing up was that color/graphics pattern. This is a casting I will be following through the coming years, picking up most of them more than likely.

It definitely needs the wood grain touch in variations of white, dark metallic blue, dark maroon and sky metallic blue.

I am excited for this one!

Put it side by side with the Majorette one just for the sake of comparison.

This. These are the colors I remember too!

On a side note, is it too early to nominate this for Casting Of The Year? This is a slam dunk- proportions look spot on and it has an opening hood and tailgate!

Hmmm...how hard to make this a Gladiator pickup, with zebra stripes? Would make a great Hollywood car in that combo...

Or put a wrecker winch on the back and TONKA on the sides... B)

White with wood grain is the version I most recall, and most want to see here as well.

Several things strike me here. It looks to be a very nice casting, but...and this is a very big but...they didn't stop there. They continued forward and put in another very authentic feature: an opening tail gate. This is not a JL first, but it is certainly a rarity on most castings to go beyond an opening hood.

Further, it has taken a step forward in the adult collectibles market by including an extra small part. Could everyone's fear of having every opening part on the upcoming Tomicas be false as well? Might we see other castings with extra opening parts (other than the hood) including in the JL lineup?

Perhaps this is wishful thinking. However, they did a great job here, and I doubt I will be among the few to raise a flag that reads, "I'm impressed," on this one.

i'm excited for this casting as well... and i almost guarantee that the Majorette will dwarf the JL... Majorette's regular Cherokee is bigger than MB's Cherokee, which in turn is bigger than JL's Cherokee... while I don't think it will as drastic as a JADA Tahoe is next to a Hot Wheels Tahoe, I do believe that the size difference will be pretty great...
