![]() Yuck. That is exactly what went through my mind when I heard in mid-2011 that Matchbox would be doing an 'Off-Road Sports Car.' To be honest, I pictured it sort of like an Aston Martin with off-road wheels. Not pretty. But the Terrain Trouncer doesn't really seem to be a sports car to me. It reminds me more of something like the Volkswagen Touareg for the Dakar Rally, or even a Bowler Nemesis. So, in my book, this model isn't as bad as I thought it would be. The Terrain Trouncer is obviously a generic. It is MB833, and is a New Model for 2012. The picture shown below showcases my favorite part of this casting: the spoiler. Look at that wing! At's absolutely massive! ![]() In this picture, you can see another thing that's massive on this off-roading menace; the hood vents. They are really deep, and make the vehicle look like it means business in the hot Sahara sun. You can also see that the lights are a part of the plastic mold for the windows, a plus for Swifty there, and me too. It reminds me of the Quick Sander. ![]() Here is another angle of those huge hood vents on the Terrain Trouncer. It also has fog lights, an air intake in gray plastic , and bolts to hold down the hood. ![]() The side profile of the Trouncer helps show its stance, which is broad. The rims are outlined in a hot foil orange color, also like on the 2011 Matchbox Ford Police Interceptor Sheriff version and the 2012 Matchbox Sahara Survivor. The wheel arches on the Terrain Trouncer are cast in a plastic mold, which I prefer because then they will be a different color from the body, making designs a little more interesting. ![]() The Terrain Trouncer has a great, yet fairly simple livery on it right now. The snake skin design looks very realistic, and the writing 'GREEN SNAKE' on the side is fairly legible. ![]() The back of the Terrain Trouncer is very busy, with three different colors, lime green, pine green, and gray, along with the model itself having many parts. The tail-lights are very contoured, and they are next to what appears to be a vent between them. There are two exhaust tips out the rear in gray, and the bumper, wheels arches, and mud flaps are pine green. ![]() I apologize for this next photo for being a little blurry, but my Canon can be decisive. This Off-roader has lights on the roof, and more vents on the back of the roof. There is yet another vent on the side, which is very, very deep. ![]() Here, that gigantic wing can be seen again, and I just love it! It also has 'MBX' written on the side. I think this photo really captures all the characteristics of the Terrain Trouncer. It's main characteristic seems to be large, proven by the spoiler, side vent, hood vent and stance. ![]() *NEW* Added some comparison shots of the Quick Sander and Terrain Trouncer. They really look like brothers. One thing to note though, it is evident how much smaller the Terrain Trouncer is than the Quick Sander, which just goes to show how Matchbox is trying to keep the brand surviving. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Well, I never thought I'd say this, but I actually really like the Terrain trouncer. For what it is anyway. I think this may be one of my favorite generic castings this year. Not my favorite, but possibly one of the top three. It just seems so great compared to all of the other (let's face it) junky off-road models. This one actually resembles that of a real Dakar Rally SUV, even though this is technically a sports car. It has no moving parts, not much play value because of that and is not the coolest thing we've seen from Matchbox. However, I think it looks pretty neat, especially because of that spoiler! What makes it great is that I can't put my finger on why I kinda like it. It just do. I hope you enjoyed my latest and greatest 'Showcase' on a new model that really surprised me. I have no sneak peak yet, but my birthday is this Thursday, the 20th, so suspect a Tidal wave of 'Showcases' then! If you have any comments, whether positive or negative, post them here for me to see! The Community's voice matters the most! mbx64

Thanks for all of the kind words about my Showcases guys! And I really enjoy making these as much as you guys enjoy reading them. It's so fun for me. There will be A TON of new Showcases coming around the 20th because I will be receiving a ton of Matchboxes for my birthday. You can also expect them to be somewhat shorter so they don't take an hour to read. There will be a special 10 pack I know I'm getting (because I'm going to be getting it myself!) that you guys should really enjoy, even if it is kind of on the old side. Oh, Stampede, what mode is the Sand Shredder? Sounds familiar, but never seen it. Can't find it online either. I don't think it's the proper name, but then again, I could be crazy! |

I can appreciate the design and thought that has been shown as this is intended for children. It has influences from Citroen and a few other nearly brand or concept cars. |

Ahh! That makes more sense. And I knew I heard 'Sand Shredder' somewhere, so it must've been in Shabir's last ambassador report. |

New casting? Quick! Take it apart!
|
There is so much molded detail on this casting that can be highlighted by painting the details. If you think the car looks busy now, wait till a customizer paints one! It would be a good challenge. I'm a customizer, but I'm in no hurry to buy this casting! I've looked at it over and over, (Thanks for the multiple views of it in your review) and can't legitimize this one in my collection. Perhaps a phantom Batmobile of some sort? It seeems to be suited as something seen in a dark or gothic movie and not a practical off road racer. I'll give credit to MBX for creating all these new sand toys, something different, but all this genre and the construction equipment are clogging the pegs at all the stores I visit.

Yeah, you're right. I really do think that this off-roader is just somehow different than the rest. And yeah, I actually hope someone gives it some light detail. It would give the model a LOT of justice. |
