These were fun....they were BEAT to death. I like to restore. The tan one has lots of body dimples. Fix a few of them but missed a few. Hope you all like.

Those are all awesome! I love the wheels on the first one and the color of the last one!

As for dings in the body, it's a pickup truck from an era when pickups were intended to be workhorses. That just adds to the accuracy!

Where are the wheels from on the white one? They're very cool. Excellent work all the way around.

Excellent work! I love this casting! Now we just need a white one with zebra stripes to have a HOW from the old show Daktari.

I'm actually curious- how do you get the regular wheels off these older castings? I've never been a fan of them and there are customs I'd like to do of the Studebaker Wagonaire and this Jeep (assuming I find suitable beaters) that I'd want to change the rolling stock on.

As I scroll down each one of these looks better than the last.
This is a great casting that really doesn't get much attention on here and your restos do it such justice.

Support your local demo derby.

Nice saves on the old Jeeps. The metalic black/gray one stands out.

if you can chop it with somee cutters do that
if not file one of the steel axle ends off and slide away the wheel

You can snip or grind one of the hubs off the axle ends or if the base is removed a Dremel cut through the axle will be suffice.
The bigger problem with converting some of these Lesneys is the wheel cut outs in the base is too small to accomodate newer, larger wheels. I encountered this with both the Studebaker and Pontiac GP and the only fix for this is to open up the wheel arches in the base with a Dremel or file and then glue the new axle directly to the base.
It's a lot of work but the result makes a huge difference when the larger wheels bring these seemingly under scaled cars up to size with newer cars.

I just use the wheels and tires from the Malibue and other HO scale castings on the old Matchbox customs. They look more realistic. I will have to see if I can locate the picture.

For the Studebaker and Grand Prix, what I was thinking of using is this:

Best part, two donors can stock three cars with new wheels!

Here is the picture I was looking for. I must finish it some day.

I like that they are more of scale width. Mini-Lindy wheels are good, too.

The Jeeps look great, as does Bob's Pontiac with 1/87 wheels. Great ideas!
