Hi guys, here's a link to a 1/18 Sunstar Taxi cab that I refurbished. I tried to post a pic here, but it's too big. This thing started life as an Atlanta cab, but I rather have the NYC version, so I decided to tear it apart, fill holes and respray it as a stock civilian Marathon sedan. Added a set of redlines to spice it up a bit. Paint is rattle can cream color on the roof, and Model Master one coat laquer Fiery Orange metallic on the body. I have been taking apart 1/64 scale diecasts and redoing them for quite a few years, and was happy to see I'm not the only one when I discovered this site recently. I'll make more posts here and there with some others I've done. Thanks for looking.

That looks great! I have wondered why SunStar never took the chance on releasing this one as a regular sedan and getting a larger run on the casting in addition to the taxi versions. Your custom work is fantastic! Thank you for posting, and WELCOME TO THE GARAGE!!

As a huge Checker fan and possible future owner... love, LOVE this custom job. Sun Star should dig out the tooling and make a stocker, if they did a dark grey one I could add it to my small but growing true crime cars collection (John Walsh owned a grey 1969 Marathon sedan when his son was kidnapped), I'd buy it.

The Mustang II is a Mustang too!
Welcome to the Garage and amazing custom! I'm a huge Checker fan also, and I have the NYC Marathon. One of the few 1/18s I couldn't resist.

It looks incredible as a stock car, and I never would have expected orange to work so well on the Marathon but the overall effect is stunning!

I think it was a stock color combo, as I saw a 1:1 in this color years ago.

Only other thing I'd change is an interior in tan or grey... I see this casting in damaged condition fairly often and have my own damaged one, might try my hand at the John Walsh car (which was the top-of-the-line version, I'm guessing would have had a black or dark green vinyl top and interior along with the pewter grey paint) if I find another, maybe the John Walsh car and the two-tone light green and ivory Superba that I used to see as a kid if I had enough to make two. Both would be curbsides due to engine differences, and the Superba would use parts from assorted 50s 1/18 junkers in srorage.

Sounds like a good idea. I can't wait to see the green/ivory one! I thought about changing the interior color, and as of now, I don't recall why I didn't.

What's wrong with the current interior? I think black works fine!
