Ladas and Skodas are still out there, FXE, get one of those.
But my Haynes manual covers Civics, Integras and CRVs, not Skodas or Ladas.

I wouldn't say no to a Lada, but I would want some time to work on it before trusting it to be a daily driver. I'm sure a K-swap can be accomplished on a Lada, K20/K24 engines end up in all sorts of places you wouldn't expect, like Pontiac Fieros, VW Rabbits and Suzuki Swifts.

Hey all

Popped back in here; still have the Infiniti, sold the Pissat wagon, and got a 2012 VW Passat TDI. :) Still finishing up school, and I have a very fun summer planned.

I jumped back into the 1:18 bandwagon and have flushed over $1k down the toilet buying 1:18s.. But it's what makes me happy. :)

Gotta get it cleaned first. It's one of the very few stick ones :) It's not fast.. but it returns better than EPA mileage. Meanwhile, so does the FX--hence why I think the EPA claims are done to make domestic cars appear better than foreign cars.

Agreed. Typical protectionism.

Life seems to be on an evil see-saw between bad emotions, drama and feeling down/sorry for myself, a balanced, enlightened state, and being so manic I break through my medications. No longer having a driver's license or car (will be working on that), getting ready to go on disability and possibly working behind the scenes at a gourmet supermarket or auto parts store & selling on eBay for extra money, are exciting and uncertain at the same time...

I too wish you luck, GCU...I'm keeping my focus on my writing, but have some other creative irons that I want to work slowly into fruition as well. I've come up for air over the past couple of days, but it's time to dive back in and keep things moving forward. So if I'm only posting sporadically, you'll know I'm making progress.

My life feels like it is going nowhere fast and has hit a dead end, and I'm in a depressive stage again. I might be going to the Oregon Coast with a friend in April, and it will be pretty nice methinks.

Thanks, I bet it will. We're talking about going to the aquarium in Newport (I'll prolly shoot a couple of abandoned buildings on Highway 101), then going up 101 to Depoe Bay (where I haven't been since I was a kid), then driving back Highway 20 and maybe stopping at Goodwill in Corvallis on the way home & driving the rest of the way back Highway 99.

I'm taking my camera and an 8gb memory card, so that should be good too...

Had a great diecast trip yesterday! I'm now busy modifiying each model to my standards.

GCU, I've been the Oregon coast, (went in 2011). It's really nice, but the weather has to be just right. If it's raining or cloudy, you won't be able to see anything at all.

Another place that people should go to is Yellowstone National Park. I went in 2012 and it is stunning!

I guess I'll chime in on what's going on in my life...

I recently went on Chantix for the second time in 4 years. I'm having trouble sleeping at night and slightly on edge. I was a pack a day smoker, have been for 13 years since I was 15. I want to quit and so far doing very well.

I recently took up slot car collecting and racing. I'm drawing up plans for building a track in the spare guest bedroom. I've been buying AutoWorld HO slot cars cheap at Hobby Lobby using the 40% off app coupon. I still have a lot to learn about the hobby and I'm excited.

I'm also car shopping still, well.. Looking off and on anyway. I really want a new Dodge Charger R/T, but I need a used pre-owned certified Honda Accord. I'm fighting with myself and can't make a logical decision.

Last but not least, my girlfriend Heather has a new job waitressing at TGI Fridays and she is doing very well. I'm happy for her and the tips she makes are triple her last job!

I think that I used to have a slot car set. It broke though.

About the cars, I would think to go with the used one for a few years, then go with the Charger, or another one.

Terence, I know Oregon Coast weather well. (Ecola State Park, Cape Perpetua, Yaquina Bay, the Port of Siuslaw, the South Jetty Beach in Florence and Heceta Head are awesome on windy days), I'm hoping to get some pics of all kinds of marine life as well as sharks in the walk-thru shark tank (which was home to Keiko the orca during the 1990s), last time I was at the Oregon Coast Aquarium, I got to handle all kinds of weird sea life such as a baby sting ray, sea urchins, sea anemones and puffers at an exhibit and squicked out everyone else around me)

I was near the breaking point until I saw my shrink and got my antipsychotic dose doubled and I also lost 10 pounds, I feel like I have been revitalized, and I am talking to two different ladies over internet, text and phone (one is starting to be a somewhat long-distance romance, the other is a fellow nerd and minutiae obsessor and is just a friend)

I'm getting closer to getting my driver's license back (passed the oral and written tests for a learner's permit with flying colors the first time and getting my groove back on the roads), looking at buying a '73 Oldsmobile Toronado as a daily driver.

And today I got up close & personal with a junker 1920s Fordson tractor, ratty 1950s Cletrac bulldozer and in-progress restoration of a late 19th century wheat shipping terminal that was remodeled into an Oregon & California Railroad freight station in the 1920s and is being restored as the freight station guise as part of the new Oregon State Hospital annex, veterans' hospital and medical-unit prison in Junction City. Pics of the old stuff coming later!

I've been reading the threads here and thought I'd put in my .02 for what it's worth.
Currently I am working some 60 hours a week with all the overtime (can't complain), the Mrs. is also working a lot of hours. I hurt my back (again!) on the job and facing possible early retirement (disability - first injury from a car accident) Doc says I have a bulging herniated disc and this latest injury made it only worst. I'm keeping busy with my custom cars, my book writing, and other activities but I find myself at times sitting feeling depressed. My wife is a great help and is there to keep me moving forward. Three weeks from now I turn the big 5-0 and I can't say I'm so depressed about that, but I do find myself thinking about "the old days" when I was a kid and how a lot of ppl I loved are no longer with us- most especially my parents. I am also car shopping, as my truck now has over 200K on the clock. I am mercurial I have highs and terrible lows, but somehow keep focused.

Thanks. Chances are that there will be diecast in the Newport bayfront and Depoe Bay shops and in the Corvallis Goodwill (possibly the Philomath ASPCA thrift store if it still exists), and if we end up taking the shorter trip minus the aquarium, which is Florence... Goodwill, St. Vincent DePaul, Funky Monkey Toys, a comic and game store in Old Town, at least one curio shop and the Florence Humane Society thrift store have good chances at diecast. I regret not picking up some unopened Hot Wheels Christmas ornaments at St. Vincent DePaul and a Corgi Mr. Bean Mini in the comic store and not exploring the perimeter of an abandoned restaurant/marina complex during my trip to Florence last year.

Methinks I will hit the jackpot on diecast for my birthday this year tho.
