I give you big points for the very pretty picture (and don't think I didn't notice all the pretty colors in the background), but the subject matter doesn't move me. Great art, though! |

As a pure fantasy 'what if' type of model I like it. |

But...it's not a fantasy model! It hasn't been...for a long time now! ![]() ![]() ref: http://carroseminis.wordpress.com/2010/04/21/twin-mill-do-164-para-o-11/ It is an honest to goodness Show Car...which makes it very real, even if not seen regularly (or even rarely) on the streets. Fantasy it is not anymore, although in fairness the toy came first...life imitating art as it were. |

My jury box has reached a verdict....making a life-size show car based on a Hot Wheels design, still makes it a fantasy design, not modeled from a real car. I'm sure some hillbilly somewhere has a shopping cart with a big block V8 attached, but that doesn't in-turn, make the Hot Wheels a replica.

LOL... That conjures up so many images of hobby auto shops and shadetree mechanics who used to find an abandoned shopping cart and convert the wheeled base to a roll around engine stand...those were the days! So where does your jury stand on the Red Baron? |

We are gonna muddy the waters, aren't we? LOL This is gonna get complicated. Suffice it to say, that I am not a fan of one-off designs - so the Tom Daniel and George Barris customs are just as fantasy to me, as the Hot Wheels Sharkcruiser and Matchbox Police Whistle. Where do I draw the line? Well, it's a flexible line that is not definitively defined. I am not a big fan of concept cars either, but I am far more accepting of a one-off if it has a car manufacturer name attached to it. Having said that, I will admit that I do have a few toys of the customs made by Tom Daniel as well as George Barris, but typically, the ones I have are the ones I see as a bit more believable, to me anyway, of being seen on a trailer, or at a show, etc. The Red Baron helmet-on-wheels? Too fantasy for me, even though I know it does exist. I use a "diorama believability" as a litmus test for my cars. I consider the Red Baron and the Twin Mill to both be complete fantasy designs. The Twin Mill, I would be more willing to display in a diorama, parked outside a car show, or some kind of convention. |
