Nice! I have both still carded. The books say the brown base version is "rare," a transitional between the tan and white versions. I don't know about rare, they turn up often enough, just not quite as often as the black base version.

I agree Wes I would say its transitional but not "Rare".

I too, have this variation. Got it for free among 4 or 5 other cars in a lot I bought that I used my eBay Bucks on.

The Minitrek is a neat little vehicle. I had a brown/beige one as a kid and killed it with a hammer. It took many years but I was finally able to replace it with a decent version.

I always liked this one as a kid. Any ideas what the closest vehicle it resembles? Sorta reminds me of the UK Ford Cortina campers.

At the Hot Wheels wiki, they say it's based on....

The Minitrek is based on a 1979-81 Toyota Truck ("Hilux" outside North America), series RN30, with (a 1974 to 1978) "Chinook" (Omega?) rear camper shell.

Of course, Larry Wood doesn't work for Matchbox, so he added his own touch to the car, and did not make it exactly alike to the real world counterpart.

That looks pretty close to me. Larry Wood definitely made the Hot Wheels more aerodynamic though probably at the expense of livable space. But it's not meant to be comfortable, its meant to roll down orange track quickly. ;)

I had always understood it to be a Toyota Minihome...Chinook is most likely.
