I think I know which one I'm voting for. I would take issue with one of the Wiki comments though...64 is far more popular than 63, and one could make an argument for the 65 as well. I saw many, many 64s and 65s converted to Lowriders back when that whole design movement got underway in the 70s. |

Another nice one from ERTL. It is to bad this line of diecast did not continue. These were nicely done cars and their opening features worked very well. I don't think I ever had a problem with hood or doors or trunks that did not shut or were off center, etc. When I first met my wife (then girl friend) she had a '64 Impala so these cars have a bit of a special signifigance to me.

Even today, no one else has a better detailed engine than these ERTL models. The engines and radiators are proportionally correct sitting inside the fenders. JL, GL and even M2 haven't yet reached that level of correctness. |

With the fine detail it looks like a much larger scale. My only complaint is the wheels could have been a tad bit wider. |

Now see...if Tomy *really* wants to do something to bring the Johnny Lightning brand up to par with the Tomica Limited series, all they would have to do is put the old Ertl American Muscle 1/64 tooling back into production and charge accordingly. There would be backlash from collectors no doubt over the price, but in time they would come around, and I think most would be more than willing to pay Tomica Limited prices for well done authentic castings from this series...I know I would. |

For an extremely limited release I'd jump on that bandwagon. A good idea Wes. the ERTL AM series still command good prices on the open market with lots of detail to them all. Many are still the best existing versions in small scale, some 10+ years after the line ceased. |

This is the car i got wrong the other day on the database. As IF I did not know the difference between a 63 or 64 l.o.l. I looked at the one in a pack said 64 and a closer look it is a 63 so Ertl GOT IT WRONG ALSO. Anyways i liked the Ertl series the opening trunk and hood on the 63 was a nice touch.Ertl has made some nice stuff over the years i had a lot of 1:18 scale . Revell did a nice 63 chev lowrider, opening trunk with hydraulics in the back plus a suspension that raised up the back end or front or both. |

I think this is the last Ertl American Muscle issues I need to hunt down, although I'm not totally sure. Body wise, not all the color variations anyway. |
