Personal Luxury Car
Looks like a car that was hit by Bigfoot in the truck derbys.

Remember the episode of Home Improvement where Tim dropped a steel beam on his Nomad?

Just like daniel said, it looks like something squashed this car. A unique piece though.

I am so glad they stopped making these. Is it me or are these horrible?

Obviously marketing at HW revealed these castings were not going to be the success that were anticipating, because we haven't seen any prominent revamps. You'll be seeing stuff (polite word) like this slipped in 5 packs or childish promos in order to get some money back on the toolings.
This is what happens when planners lose track of what their consumers want.

While I agree with all these points there are a few I find interesting like the 57 Nomad, BUT I have seen this before for those who look at it from and investment point, that later down the(much later in this case) will be hard to find(a good thing?) and command a premium dollar, time will tell? We may laugh now but 10 years down the road we may look back and say OMG! you paid how much?

The first time I saw these I chuckled and thought geez Mattels getting desperate and I christened them as "the stepped on series" :D

I remember it well, glad it was not a Nomad that got crushed(but a stand in), but still it was a 55 Wagon :(

QS, never thought of it that way. Yea they will most likely hard to find, making them rare. I agree there were a few like the 69 chevelle that were not that bad. Some though were like a bad cartoon.
As for Mattel,I think their finally getting it with HW. As some point out you still get those ones leaving you scratching you head. I know looking back to the 60s & 70s there were some crazy stuff put on the pegs. MB seem to be taking the hit now with most of the really bad castings.

I did manage to pick up one of each, but I seriously don't remember what I've kept and what I've let go of. I think there were 5 or 6 of the squashed ones off the top of my head, whether any of them got the zamac treatment I don't know (that was a sort of chase version for a handful of cars that year, I think one from each miniseries...so most likely one of them was done in that manner). The Speed Bump (flattened Tucker) had I think three wheel variations, including one of the first to get the "new" FTE wheels...so that is the main reason I picked up more than one of that one...but of the ones done I think it was the best looking (not saying much, I know...). Most of them were "one and done." I think I've seen maybe one or two since slipped into 5 packs, and I really don't even remember which ones.

As for rarity...yes, but...

I can name a 2K run of special edition promo cars that I've seen languish at $2 each with no buyers for months. Scarcity is only half of the value equation. '95 Treasure Hunt Camaros were made at 10K copies, and people (not me) shell out $300.00 for them all day long. Just because something is short run doesn't mean much if nobody wants them. Where it becomes problematic is if someone wanted to complete that set from 2004 in ten years or so and they can't find these (or some of the others made that year) because nobody wants them and threw them all away! Then it doesn't matter how much you are willing to spend, they can't be had at any price!

I think that HW now is coming out with better castings and designs. I think that they've somewhat learned from their mistakes.

Well, I'm happy to say that MB has castings that do look better this year than last year.
