Today's car of the day is Maisto's 2001 Ford Escape XLT.

Wikipedia

The Ford Escape is a compact crossover sold by Ford Motor Company introduced in 2000 as a 2001 model year and priced below the Ford Explorer. Although it is technically a crossover vehicle, it is marketed by Ford as part of its traditional SUV lineup (Escape, Explorer, Expedition) rather than its separate crossover lineup (Edge, Flex). The Escape was sold in Europe as the Ford Maverick. It was jointly developed with Mazda, in which Ford owned a controlling interest, and was released simultaneously with the Mazda Tribute.

Maisto released this Ford Escape soon after the real car came out. Because Maisto did not give it a two-tone paint job, to simulate the gray plastic bumpers and lower body which was a staple to the first generation Escape, this one has to represent a custom vehicle with color-coded bumpers. The Escape Limited for 2004, was the first Escape to have color-coded bumpers available, if my research was accurate. As is my usual calling card, I have added the lighting details to this car. It is nice to have this Escape, to go along with the 2013 model from Greenlight.

Wikipedia

The Escape is built on the Ford CD2 platform, which is in turn based on the Mazda GF platform, which was used by the Mazda 626. The first generation Ford Escape was released in North America for the 2001 model year. It was slotted below the larger, truck-based Explorer in Ford's lineup, but was larger than the small SUV offerings from Honda and Toyota. At the time, most sport utility vehicles used a truck-based, body-on-frame design. Solid rear axles were commonly used due to their ability to carry heavy loads at the expense of a comfortable ride and good handling. Ford realized most initial SUV owners did not take their vehicles off road, and decided instead to use a car-like, monocoque design with a fully independent suspension and rack and pinion steering for the Escape. Although not meant for serious off-roading, a full-time all-wheel-drive (AWD) system supplied by Dana was optional, which included a locking center differential activated by a switch on the dashboard.

Wikipedia

From 2001 to 2004, the Ford Escape was sold in Europe under the Maverick name, and replaced a rebadged version of the Nissan Mistral/Terrano II. Only two versions were made, the 2.0 L Zetec inline 4 engine with manual transmission and 3.0 L Duratec V6 with automatic transmission, both using gasoline as fuel. The absence of a diesel version did not help sales and the vehicle was temporarily discontinued in late 2003.

Again, not bad for a dollar car - no horrid tampos - headlights and taillights. I know many complain about no interiors/black windows on these but I can overlook those for a model that looks as nice as this one.

Support your local demo derby.

Had no idea the Maverick name had been used at all after the US car left the market.

Me neither! I was caught off guard to learn that as well.

I like this one, very good casting of a plain car. I have one that I don't intend on letting go.

Very good point, Robert. I believe the appeal of a plain or ordinary car is much enhanced when the diecast maker does a good job. Certainly this example is a "replica," as opposed to just another "toy." A "replica" is always welcome in my collection regardless of subject. That includes, (cough) even Volvos.
