Today's ambulance is Awesome Diecast's 2003 Chevrolet Express

Wikipedia.com

The Chevrolet Express and GMC Savana are full-size vans from General Motors. They replaced the Chevrolet Van and GMC Vandura in 1996. The Express and Savana currently hold 44.8% of the full-size van market in the United States, just behind rival Ford's E-Series. The Express outsells the Savana by more than 3 to 1.

After 2003, the Express and Savana had updated sheetmetal similar to the GMT800 light trucks and SUVs, and at the same time, fitted with the LS engines. In 2004 Stability Control (Stabilitrak) was added to all passenger vans. In 2008 the interior was updated and side impact roof airbags were standard on all passenger models. They also offer the E85 Flexfuel Vortec 5.3L V8 engine in both the 2008 Express 1500 Work Van and Passenger Van. The 6.6L Duramax Diesel V8 was added as an option for 2006.

The American Friends of David Adom raise funds for the MDA Ambulances in Israel. This model represents a MICU (Mobile Intensive Care Unit) They commissed this 1/64th Chevrolet Type 2 Ambulance from Awesome Diecast as a fund raiser. My example is from a fellow ambulance/police/fire collector who was able to obtain a few of these. It was not cheap but to me worth the price in support of a very good cause.

I've never heard of this brand before, but it looks like they did a very good job. It looks like a Chevrolet van, which is better than most of the generic ambulances that get made. I wonder how it scales out?

Glad you all liked it - thought it would be an appropriate choice for the week I would lying around in a hospital bed - got lucky and got a room that allowed me to see most of the ambulances come in to the ER. :D It scales out to 1/64th scale - it will be a while before I can offer a comparison picture so you can all see the scale.

This Chevrolet ambulance is very detailed and accurately proportioned for 1:64. I still think some of the coolest cars in diecast are the ones you unknowingly see everyday.

Thanks for the pics!

This is a great casting but I am also stumped on the manufacture. I never heard of them and no idea where they are available. More info please....

$25 is the cost of admission. Great looking casting!

For that price though, I would've expected an interior. :(

I guess that's the combination of fund-raiser, plus funding a low-volume casting that isn't produced by one of the big diecast makers. I remember the days I could get 2 1/18 scale model cars for $25. Wow, how the times have changed!

The $25 is less than what I paid (not that it matters to me) as I enjoyed being able to support a good cause. I am guessing maybe the organization released the extras back to Awesome Diecast to openly sell to collectors.

You still can, heck at Costco you can pick up 2 for $20...depends on the quality you want though.

Anyways, $25 is acceptable since this is basically a very limited casting made for a cause/
