The car for today is the Motormax 1998 Toyota Corolla.

Wikipedia.com

The Toyota Corolla is one of a line of subcompact and compact cars manufactured by the Japanese automaker Toyota, which has become very popular throughout the world since the nameplate was first introduced in 1966. In 1997, the Corolla became the best selling nameplate in the world, surpassing the Volkswagen Beetle.[2] Over 39 million Corollas have been sold as of 2012.[3] The series has undergone several major redesigns.
The name "corolla" is part of Toyota's naming tradition of using the name Crown for primary models. The Corolla has always been exclusive in Japan to Toyota Corolla Store locations, and manufactured in Japan with a twin, called the Toyota Sprinter until 2000.

Introduced in 1997 (1998 model year), all Corollas for the North American market were now built in Fremont, California (by NUMMI) or Cambridge, Ontario (by TMMC). Unlike the Japanese counterparts, the North American Corolla at this time was only offered as a four-door compact sedan. A new all-aluminum 1ZZ-FE engine powered all Corollas, making this generation lighter than its predecessor. This new engine uses a timing chain instead of a timing belt. It also incorporated laser etched valve guides directly in the block, rather than the old shrink to fit valve guides in the predecessor Corolla motor (4A-FE & 7A-FE). This prevents oil burning and valve guide failure in the future.
In North America, only sedans were offered, and all came with daylight driving lights. This Corolla has a maximum legal carrying capacity of 1,500 lb (680 kg). Grades were VE, CE, and LE. The VE model was the base model available in a 3 speed automatic or the 5 speed manual transmission with 175/65x14 tires. The CE and LE models offered the 4 speed automatic with overdrive or the 5 speed manual transmission with 185/65x14 tires. An optional powered sunroof was offered on the CE and LE models. An optional Touring Package with color matched side skirts, color matched rear mudflaps, a white faced instrument cluster with tachometer and outside temperature gauge, and aluminum wheels was reserved for the VE[citation needed], CE, and LE models. Side airbags and ABS were optional for the CE and LE models, but very few of them actually had them. The first batch of 1998 Corolla VE's did not have a front sway bar but by June 1998 it was included on all models.

Nice to have an everyday sedan produced. Motormax did an admirable job including this Corolla in their 3" line which was found at TRU.

A nice, plain jane car and Motormax has done a very good job with it. No extra tampo nonsense and nice treatment of the lights and smaller details.

@ Daivd - I think I'm really excited to see Greenlight will issue a Dodge Dart and Chrysler 300 sedans later this year. The plain jane sedans are a delight to see in the scale. Same holds true with this Toyota.

Not my usual cuppa, but I do gotta say the little details are quite nice. The wheels are so-so, but for a buck and under car that is forgivable. I wonder if Matty is listening? Eh...I doubt it. So the coast is clear for makers like this, Suntoys and Welly to continue making remarkably accurate models for the size and price.

I have this in metallic blue, without any of the nice HL+TL detail. Picked it up at a Flea for a quarter. Still have plans to compact derby it at some point.

On a side note I always like Corolla twin the Prizm better. Especially the Lsi models. Friend in college had a metallic green Prism Lsi, and it was a great car. Took snow like a champ, but loaded down with 4 adults on the interstate was a bit of a challenge for the car.

New casting? Quick! Take it apart!
The perfect diorama car. Parked or moving, they make a street scene LOOK like a street scene. You could paint a dozen of these in different colors and they'd all look typical. I wish I had two dozen, but I have ...NONE! :(

It should come as no surprise to anyone who knows me here, that I love this car. Great everyday car. Motor Max had a great lineup of Toyota models. Corolla, Camry, Celica, Supra, Tacoma, Hiace van, Land Cruiser/Lexus LX450, and the Lexus LS430. They must have got the bulk discount on licensing!

Here is my collection of Corollas. I have wheel variations on the green, metallic blue, and bright red versions.

Because these Motor Max cars most often came in multi-packs, I ended up with a few extras. I turned a couple of spare Corollas into hubcap-less cars.

That dark red is striking. And from Motor Max no less.

Always fun when diecast can be customized to imitate real life. Toyota Corollas and Chevrolet Cavaliers are the cars that almost ALWAYS seem to be missing hubcaps.

Very cool casting... Dean, Motormax also had the Lexus LS400 that was inherited from Zylmex...

I've not seen the red or burgundy in person, but I'm lucky enough to have the others shown. The hubcap-less variaton cracks me up…
