The truck for today is the Johnny Lightning 1955 Chevrolet Cameo.

Chevy called its entire new "Task Force" generation of mid-1950s light trucks a "Modern Design for Modern Hauling." Forward-slanting windshield pillars on the "Panoramic" wraparound windshield combined with a new upper cab structure, hooded headlamps and shapely wheel openings to form an all-new profile.

Though the Cameo's pickup box was a standard item, fiberglass rear fenders broadened it to the same width as the front end, producing a flow-through look. Chuck Jordan, former head of GM Design, earned credit for that form.

The most notable mechanical improvement was Chevy's new 265-cid V-8, tuned to deliver 145 bhp-not as much as the car's, but significantly more than the old "Stovebolt" six. Still, the six had more horsepower than ever -- 123, up from 112 in 1954.
Either engine could be mated to any of five transmissions: three-speed, heavy-duty three-speed, three-speed with overdrive, four-speed, or Hydra-matic. Power steering and brakes were available, too.

The John Deere themed dealer truck was sold under the ERTL name along side the John Deere 80 shown in the last picture. Both were new models for 1955. The ''80'' replaced the "R" model which debuted in 1949 as John Deere's first diesel tractor. Other than a name and different engine, they were identical tractors. It's cool to see the Cameo used with a JD green scheme.

A girlfriend in high school had a Chevy Cameo, so I've always had a soft spot for these. First I've seen the JD green though.

Gotta love it...it is John Deere green! Since this was done by ERTL as a two pack - pickup and JD tractor - it did not show up in a lot of retail stores unless you shop places like Tractor Supply, farm dealerships, etc. The local JD dealer let me know when he got them so that I would be sure to get one from him. :)

That's sure correct here, we didn't see it in these parts. We don't have any Tractor Supply stores in rural southern Nevada, and I own a horse, so I should know. I never see anything like this at IFA, which only has one location in the Las Vegas area. What a beauty of a set. I wish I had the opp to buy one.

These sets were pricey at the local hobby store I go to. Like $14.99. I suppose may be I only think that is pricey. I think he still had some of them. Possibly only the Ford sets now.
