Nice vans! I know the Road Blasters series had a number of cars with add on pieces like this, I'm still looking for the Ruff Trek / Carpow version myself. And welcome aboard! |

I don't remember the yellow car, so I 'cheated' and looked it up. It is a Ford GT-70, and was intended to be for rallying, but was never produced. I guess it was kind of like the RS200 (from the mid 80's) of it's day, although those were actually made in small numbers. I have the MBX RS200 from around the same time period, and it cleaned up very nicely. |

The Road Blasters were a curious series that was here and gone in a flash. It wouldn't surprise me if there are unusual variations out there, but they are uncommon enough that any of them complete is quite a feat in itself. They come from a time before I got back into collecting, although I did have that van at one time and another early casting I had that got me looking for this set was a modified Corvette...if you can imagine a fiberglass car with armor! At any rate, my copy was toast anyway, and it took me years to finally identify it. I've only seen the complete set offered on the 'bay just once in the past five years, and the one I look for to add to my Holden/Ruff Trek collection seldom comes around complete, and even playworn without the add-ons is a seldom occurrence. |

Actually the car was produced but only six were ever made. Here is a potted history of the car. Ford has enjoyed many successes in motorsports but one of its rarest creations came about thanks to a failure. In 1970, on the way back from an unsuccessful Monte Carlo Rally, Ford's then competitions director Stuart Turner, and Ford rally driver, Roger Clark, discussed the need for a light and simple mid-engined car capable of taking various engines. The result was the GT70. Ford drivers, including Hannu Mikkola and Timo Makinen, contributed ideas for the interior and Len Bailey, one of the Ford GT40 design team, was tasked with designing a car "strong enough to win rallies and light enough to win races." Just six chassis were completed and the GT70 has remained in Ford ownership. A combination of WRC rule changes and the versatility of the up-and-coming Ford Escort saw development of the GT70 curtailed. This rare GT70 last saw competitive action in the French tarmac championships in 1973 before going into storage. In 2002 it was fully restored, including fitting a 2.0-liter BDA engine and Hewland gearbox, and it saw its first competitive action for nearly 30 years at the 2002 Goodwood Festival of Speed. The car from the pic now restored. ![]() For info Historic rallying is one of the fastest growing forms of Motorsport at present in the UK. Just a teaser. Thank you for your pictures of the Matchbox Ford Supervan II, picto. Also, welcome to the Garage I look forward to seeing more of your collection.Matchbox has been real close with Ford and their Transits. They have done this Supervan II, the 1990's Transit, the 2007 model Transit and the 2010 Transit Connect. I really do wish that they take on one of 2014's Transits, but with their attitude towards a price-point raise, I doubt that will happen. The license and body-diecast amount will turn them away, unfortunately. |

There is a good possibility that I still have an image of it, but it will be no different than the one you show without the armor. I never did have any of the Road Blasters complete. |
