Bimmer alert! Bimmer alert!

I love me a good BMW. I love the Bavarian's work, although there is a lot more German in BMW's than Bavarian now, but that is okay. Germans are meticulous perfectionists, so add those couple of characteristics to BMW's reputation for pure-pedigree machines and you have a concoction for amazing cars and bikes. Thanks to Matchbox's new-found relationship with the 'Bavarians,' we are getting both motorbikes and sports cars from their lineup, and what a joy that is. Albeit, I will admit that the BMW 1M completely overshadows the R1200. However, I still really like the R1200. That just shows how excited I am for the 1M.

But alas, we are stuck with MB841 BMW R1200 RT-P Motorcycle for now. Not a bad way to be stuck, huh? This casting has received a lot of praise, and I am pretty certain I was one of those collectors groveling before it at its release. It was so cool to see a new motorbike casting take the Matchbox name after years and years without any. Don't forget, we still have the R1200 GS to look forward to as well. Things are certainly looking up for you two-wheel enthusiasts. And, let's not forget that the BMW R1200 pictured just below is getting a casting modification that includes more diecast. Yes, you read right, more diecast.

One thing that helps this particular version of the R1200 RT-P standout is its design. Because it is a 60th Anniversary model, it gets the wonderful 3-sided tampo treatment, but for the pricetag, the three-sided tampo print is somewhat disappointing. So, you can have a two-sided look at it. Even though you have to pay the price, once you have the model in-hand, you won't really care. The front headlights look so spectacular that they will immediately distract you from how much you paid for the model. You can see all of the highlights and reflectors in the front headlight unit. The black windshield guard is another realistic touch, and the backwards 'POLICE' warning on the windshield guard is another great addition to the use of a front tampo strike.

The colors on this Police bike really help make the model. The striking sky blue is a perfect companion for the metallic pearl white seat and handlebars. The blue body has the European-esque checkered livery that so many of these RT-P Bikes wear. The white checkers and 'Police' lettering match the pearl seat, and the yellow striping helps to provide a slight color break to make the side just a bit more striking, which is called for in a fully-uniformed police vehicle. You can also note the detailing of a BMW badge and front indicators, too, which can be found just under the front warning beacons.

This is definitely one of the better 60th Anniversary models. I am unaware if you fully recall my Showcase on the 1961 Jaguar E-Type Coupe, where I wrote that I thought the 60th Anniversary Line was a failure, but I still back that statement. Don't get me wrong, though. It doesn't even remotely mean that I dislike all the models in the 60th Series. The Jaguar, 2012 Explorer, Aston Martin DBS, Mustang GT/CS and this BMW are all great examples of commemorative Matchbox models. Their heritage, casting execution and designs are all top-notch, but it is sad that some models had to get in the way of these gems. The $3.99 pricetag has still not made me a happy camper, either. Even though of this, I still fully recommend that this be one of the few 60th Anniversary Models that you purchase, because I totally believe that it is fully worth the price. The design is phenomenal, the colors are brilliant and the casting is one to observe with a piqued interest.

Here you can see the 60th Anniversary BMW R1200 parked next to its fellow compatriots, minus 2013 Mainline version A. I forgot to pull out the model in my original photo-shoot, and my schedule has dictated that most of my time to be put towards school at the moment.

All in all, this isn't a Matchbox model to pass up. A lot of headaches have been going around for us collectors (not quite so in regards of yours truly) with Matchbox's new direction, and that won't change any time soon. I promise you, however, that if you pick up this model, your headache will be alleviated.

Keep your eyes open for a post regarding some Antique Store finds soon!

Or, if you really like the bike, you could buy this from Siku:

Great review! Although this probably isn't a model that I'll pick up, it still is a wonderful model. The tampoes on the front lights really make this model pop.

Nice write up Nicholas. Bikes don't get a lot of love around here, but they do from me. Thanks for the group shot, at least now I see the difference in the green on the military versions you talked of earlier.

Great write up, as is your style. Although motorcycles are not my forté, I can appreciate them as an addition to the current line up. Your "oops" picture had me laughing out loud btw.

That was no personal attack at all,the words were from the UK version of the Urban Dictionary.Seems strange to me that something that is acceptable in the UK is found out of order in the US&A.

Yes, it was. You said anyone who called it a Bimmer was a . . . . .

And I called it a Bimmer. So that was a very rude personal attack.

Good showcase Nicolas, I like to collect this MBX model, and will want the 60th version too, if I'm lucky enough to find it at a local WM.

Thanks, Terence! I agree that the front light tampo really makes this model jump-out from the rest of its versions.

The compliment is appreciated, David! I agree with you on the idea of motorcycles. Although I'd rather see a Porsche Panamera or a CTS Coupe in their place, I still enjoy seeing them in the mainline. They add diversity to the range!

And I'm glad you liked that photo! :P

Thanks! I have officially given up on Wal-Mart, and now purchase all my models from MVECollectibles. If you can't find one in stores, then I strongly urge you to go and check them out. Their pricing is exceptional!
