My thoughts on a couple 60th anniversary models

Namely, the Jaguar E-type and the Lamborghini Miura. As a collector of many different types and makes of diecast, I found myself eagerly awaiting the day I would be able to get these two in my hands together. The E-type has been one of my favorite Matchbox castings along with the Miura. I went to two Walmarts today. The first one had the 60th Jag. The second one had ONE nine pack with the Miura in it. I wanted it so bad, I even left a Hot Wheels ZAMAC Aventador J on the shelf. I understand that a lot of people ain't so crazy about the hot rod stripes on the Jag, but it's in BRG. You can't go wrong with a classic Jag in BRG. The Miura is, without a doubt, one of the BEST 60th models of this year. It is GORGEOUS. The metallic lime green shines and the Lamborghini text on the hood is crisp and legible. The headlights are tampoed, but the tail lights aren't. Honestly, it doesn't bother me. The 60th anniversary version is great and I was about to keel over when I saw the 2014 five pack version in gold with no stupid tampos. The Lamborghini badge is present and clear on this one. The earlier version with lime green paint was nice, but let's be honest here, metallic paint is great on classic cars. Both were high on my want list and I got both today. To say I'm happy is a bit of an understatement.

Nah. The nine pack had a few other models I wanted, so I got my money's worth.

Wow - Bill admitting he likes Matchbox enough to steal them.

I think I've seen your work at various WalMarts over the years. Didn't realize you made it over here so often.

I love decent Matchbox and hate the utter junk that is the norm and i do not steal, swapping is different.A kid or parent buys a 9 pack and 9 they get and the store manager is not bothered either that is why you here so many stories of collectors pointing that the contents have changed and the manager shows no interest.

As it happens i have never had to do it as i do not collect multi packs but i would if needed.

For about twice the retail price of this one, I can get the original Matchbox Jaguar E Type from a local antique store. Personally, I'd rather get the original, even though this one seems better as far as the decoration goes.

If you swap it for a different model, please put an MB back in it, and don't make it so obvious that you took the packageso apart. Once, I saw a MB package that had a Masito in it. Person who did that did a horrible job.

I don't really like the idea of swapping cars and then returning it, to me it's just not honest. When I bought my first Greenlights a year ago, the salesclerk told me that I couldn't return it, and explained to me why that policy was in place.

Did any of the series I E-types have a V12 or were all of them straight sixes?

The first e-types came with a 3.8 straight six. A couple years later, the 3.8 was replaced with a 4.2 six. This engine was with the E until the v12 series three cars came about in 1971-ish. The very first e-types also had non-syncro transmissions. When the series 1.5 came around (1964, I think), the transmissions got syncros. I am currently shopping for a real e-type, so my ultimate car would be the series 1.5 coupe with a 4.2 liter engine and the syncro transmission.
I'd like the car to be red, please.

With Jazz and conversation from the foot of Mt. Belzoni.
Buying sets and swapping out models before you return the set for a full refund is dishonest, period. It's the kind of activity that gives all diecast collectors a bad name.

I've purchased many 5- and 10- (now 9-) packs over the years where I only wanted a few of the cars. The cars I didn't want were put aside until Halloween and dropped into trick-or-treat bags. If you haven't done it you wouldn't believe the thrill on a kid's face when they get a Matchbox or Hot Wheels along with their run-of-the-mill snack size candy. Today my son gets first dibs at the multi-pack leftovers, and what he doesn't want goes in the Halloween pile.

Some multi-pack exclusives are set aside for fellow collectors, but most are run-of-the mill models that become a joy to a child.

Why anyone would go re-seal a factory sealed package and run the risk of prosecution for theft instead of doing the right thing and making a kid's night is beyond me.

Good luck! I sincerely hope you get your E-Type and that you enjoy it as any classic car should be enjoyed.

I am in a lucky position of calling on a specialist E Type racing preparation company as part of my job.

Restored from barn find condition during 2010, 7597 PE (Chassis No. 850148) is finished to Pre-63 Homologation 34 specification, featuring SU carburetors and a retaining many road car features. 7597 PE proved highly competitive in both Pre-63 GT and the E Type Challenge, achieving class podiums. Considered one of the prettiest racing E Types restored in recent years.

3 UK pounds (which exchanges to $4.83) for both isn't bad for the detail especially in this scale, but I don't guess that they ship to the US. Neither is 2 to 3 pounds for many of the others as well. Plus they make a Bedford "Green Goddess", and many other great British emergency vehicles (for some reason I'm a big fan of British fire apparatus) which I'd like to have in my collection.

However they offer as part of a "series" plan, which means that you might have to end up paying for the other models in the series.

I absolutely agree. Sure a parent might buy that pack but there the collectors (like me) who will buy a whole multipack just to have 1 or 2 cars, and I would be super mad if the car I wanted was opened and swapped out for a different one. Same with you - my son is more than willing to everything I give but the Hallowe'en idea is awesome (and just in time too!).
