Oh yeah, this has been one HUGE topic over at Brad's site.

As far as I have seen from the talk over there, this person is deliberately trying to fool people. If you notice, the base is never shown on eBay pics. When a cobratoy's member e-mailed the seller asking for pics of the base, the seller provided. Unfortunately, the base clearly stated 'Hot Wheels' on it. The worst part was that s/he was still adamaent on it being a Lesney Matchbox. :duh:

People these days.

There's a sucker born every minute. Looking at the bid count, I'd say the world has been around for 47 minutes.

Support your local demo derby.

I'm not sure what's really worse. . . A douche trying to sell a fake non-existent Lesney model of the 60s or the people dumb enough to bid on it. I'd say whoever wins the bid certainly has earned it. I'll give props to whoever did art work in faking the card art and the box. It looks pretty good.

They really did do an amazing job with the box and card. My first glance at it before reading the comments was, "What the heck is a HWs doing in a MB Superfast package?" But this is not only scary, it's insane. We can call those folks not in the know suckers who were born yesterday from a diecast collector's standpoint, but this would be like someone coming to one of us with a vintage snuff box...we wouldn't know the traits.

And the fact that someone went to great lengths to create such an elaborite presentations. This would be criminal anyplace other than eBay. Imagine when the buyer brags he found this rare piece to someone in the know who finally tells them it's a fake. It's like passing out counterfeit bills.

The seller could claim ignorance...but the "Superfast and super rare," statement sounds like they know exactly how rare it really is because they're selling that baby with with a push. If they really didn't know, I would expect a bit more generalized facts.

That Matchbox logo wasn't in use until the '70s, guess it was Batman collectors who weren't educated about diecast to realize that that this model was a fake.

Matchbox never had a Batmobile until recently, and that was a modern one, not the classic one like the HW one.

I say they're suckers because they are dropping such large coin on an item they clearly know nothing about. I may not know that snuff box from Adam, but I'm not going to spend $300 on it without doing some research. Maybe $5 if I had a passing interest in snuff boxes, as that's a pretty low amount of cash. And honestly, if I liked superhero stuff, this car and package combo would be worth $5 anyway, it's gorgeous!

Sellers shouldn't hide "reproduction" down in the description, it should be clearly stated as "custom made" or "reproduction" right in the title, and then they can explain further in the description.

Daniels comment about money not being a problem reminded me of someone I did work for, if this guy learned of something he bought being other than what he thought, I can really imagine him saying something like... oh well, it didn't cost much. (and he wouldn't be hiding any true feelings when he'd say it didn't cost much, wasting that amount was nothing to him when it came to his personal spending....and then he gets into his Lambo and drives off :D )

I didn't read all the comments before so I didn't make a good argument did I? but if someone wants something bad and it is legit then it's worth what that person is willing to pay for it.

A great custom with stellar packaging, so it's a real shame that there's a scumbag selling it.

I would have to agree with Rob. I know I wouldn't spend $300 on anything without doing some kind of research on it.

It is also trade mark infringement and if Tilley tells Mattel, they may look into it. Mattel busted the jokers that were selling on ebay matchbox cars that had HW wheels on them and HW cars with Matchbox wheels all stolen from the factory.

The seller to me is the greater of the 2 evils. That is just criminal to pass off fakes.

The seller said it has been in his collection for "quite some time". I would take that as 10, 15, 20 maybe 30+ years. Didn't Hot Wheels release that casting like 2 years ago?

I would imagine some of the bidders were probably people from different websites just toying with the seller and someone actually got stuck with the high bid.

I just went through the sellers completed listings... He has a 100% Hot Wheels 2 car box set "first run" of the Batmobile and Jokers Goons car. One is an Ertl and the other a JL. Somebody paid $31.00. Lol
