Down here on PEI we have 2 dealers of Maisto Main Line castings, Dollarama and Walmart, Dollarama sells them on the "MAISTO" blue cards, Walmart under the "Adventure Wheels" Banner, both are $1.00, both have almost the exact same linup of castings.

This one was strange for me as I only collect Vipers but I have over 100 and I have to have every version of the Viper but I don't have any others.

I like the older ones much more than the new ones. Still, they'll occasionally release a decent car. The C7 Corvette and Aventadoor are good for the price. I'm not serious about them at all though- I rarely check the pegs for them.

I guess if you say less than 10 castings but if you are talking variations then it is more than 100. I voted wrong if castings.

There are 7 distinct Maisto castings of the viper in small scale

GTS
GTS-R
RT/10 w/ side exhaust
RT/10 w/ rear exhaust
SRT/10
Hoodz GTS
SRT Coupe

8 if you count Chassis as there is a pull back Chassis for GTS

There are over 100 Maisto Vipers in their variations...... WOW never knew that, You are serious then

My hat is doffed to you sir, In all the various manufacturers, how many Vipers do you have? I have close to 1500 Chevys, that includes all various brands under the Chevy label.

Without an actual count I estimate around 1600 in the 1:55th and smaller scale I collect. My displays can be seen in this thread.

I should mention if the casting was altered in any way I would need to get another Maisto is famous for changing text on their bases!

I've got about a jammer case full of loose, and probably a full storage tote full of carded. Not focused like Viper, but there are particular castings that catch my fancy such as the Baja Bug VW. I am also fond of the 38 Ford COE car carrier and the 57 Chevy car carrier, so I have several examples of each, most still carded. A couple of years back their webpage listed a Henry J gasser as a chase piece that I have been on the hunt for ever since, but I suspect that may have gotten scrubbed as it was right before the announcement of the acquisition of the Muscle Machines brand. I've picked up a few of the new Muscle Machines, but it isn't the same as before...the excitement is gone for me.

Support your local demo derby.

I use to have about a full Jammer case of them and then sold them as I was running out of room for my other loose items. Their older releases from the 80s as MC Toy and later 90s issues are my favorites. The newer releases are fairly competent for a sub $1 toy and often have tampos that exceed that of their MB/HW counterparts. Their lack of interiors sans a few of their converitble models is a downer but as a toy line aimed strictly at kids I'm not that concerned. Still have a few of their premium series Playerz models and they came with a metal base rubber treads.

:toy: There was a time when I picked up quite a few of the Maisto castings but those days are long gone. Now I will check them over and pick up an occasional emergency vehicle but those are pretty few and far between.

They have some decent castings, and I am especially fond of the BMW 128i and the Mercedes GLK which look excellent. Painted lights and trim. If only they had interiors and/or slightly higher quality plastics, I would definitely be more serious about them. But as is, everything about them just screams cheap and usually not even worth $1.

I should add their 1:18s can be bargains, with the right castings. My local Costco sells their newest stuff for $15 a piece. The Panamera, and the SL63 and SL65 all look very good for the price.

Some models look good, while some not so much. I agree with Clem that their 1/18s are good for the price. Too bad my Costco didn't have too many.

I've got several, but most of mine are from about ten years ago. Any more, I buy a Maisto if the others haven't released one of a specific model yet, like the new Corvette or the Ford Raptor. My favorite so far would be the Blackhawk helicopter (and no, it isn't a Tailwinds)

However, I do like the 1:18 series, but due to space constraints I only own the Jeep Brush Truck. And at only about $14 at Sam's Club at around Christmastime, they're really not bad for the price.

I've got maybe 30, but still consider myself a dabbler. They've got the odd release that can be pretty nice with a wheel swap.

I have two full Jammer cases, and another case started. I only buy the ones I like however. Like Jedimario said, the older ones are mostly what I have. I think they were better. As far as the new ones go, there are only a few so far that I've bought. Still glad to have them available though.

With Jazz and conversation from the foot of Mt. Belzoni.
I think there may need to be another possible answer to this poll question:

I have well over 100, but I don't need "to have them all" of any brand of die cast. I only buy what I like.

The difference between having 10 and 50 is not that great in this hobby, where we all know how quickly things can suddenly pile up at a dollar here and a dollar there.

I have three Jammers of the (formerly) sub-$1 models dating back from early MC Toys to the brand new Maisto Corvette. I'm not including "premium" Maisto models in this count, because I don't think that's what you intended.

Mae Chong used to put out quite a few unique models in the inexpensive small-scale line. So many cool concept cars - like the 2002 Chevy BelAir and 2003 Chevy SS concept - and nobody-else-ever-did cars like the VW Jetta, Pontiac G6, Chrysler Sebring Convertible, Lincoln Mark VII and Cadillac DeVille. Now it seems to be a "me too" maker, with models staying around in the same color schemes for many years.

I have bought only a handful in the past couple of years, after actively tracking them down several years ago.

Well, to keep up with the Jammer case counting, I have 19 Jammers of basic Maistos, and another 12 Jammers with the "Premium" cars (AllStars, Players, etc)

Love reading thru all the comments, Thank You guys, Maisto is an interesting company, some unique castings that no one else has, some trashie castings, I too moan over the fact that they have blacked out windows now and no interiors, (1$ line) and their premium line has disapeared from Canada with all the other great casting lines. I was just going thru some maisto's I have and thought it might be interesting to see who collects these little gems with a passion.

Thanks and Merry Christmas All

I agree. I started adding Maisto to my collection when they first appeared, mainly for the castings they were doing that other 'cheapie' makers weren't, such as the Lancia 037 Rally, Peugeot 309, Trabant, Porsche 956 Racer, Ferrari 250 GTO and Daytona. Later on, those concept cars were certainly welcome additions too.

And more recently, whoever expected to see castings like a copy of the old Leyland Ergomatic tanker or the Maxim Fire Truck suddenly appear in the toy stores, a good 25 - 30 years after they were withdrawn from the Matchbox 1-75 series?!

Sadly the spark has completely gone out of the basic Maisto series in recent years.

I wouldn't say the "spark" is completely gone, but then I never thought of Maisto and "spark" together in the same sentence to begin with.

Maisto is what it is, and as long as one looks at their castings in that manner, there are still enjoyable models in the lineup. They do seem to suffer from Matchbox syndrome, in that once a model is in the line, it tends to stay there basically unchanged for years. There may be minor variations and modifications over time, but I know I have seen some models (the yellow VW baja I am fond of, a blue Charger, a green Barracuda, and many, many others I'm sure) in the line for years at a time, being sold on various cardbacks in multiple retail outlets, with and without the Maisto name prominently displayed. Only recently, in the past few years, am I seeing some of the more venerable castings getting a color makeover.

As for newer castings, as pointed out the new Corvette is available first from Maisto. Saw one just the other and almost bought, I can see why others have bought. I'm just getting picky as my collection is overwhelming my space, no reflection on the Corvette, it was pretty nice looking. It is not a high end product and can't be realistically compared with high end products, but I would say compares favorably with current offerings from HW and MBX, even with the lack of interior.

The main Maisto cars I have are the older 1962 Biscayne station wagons. I just love them. I olny have about 8 or 10. I would love to find more of them that I don't have but they are hard to find. Even if I could find ones I have to do repaints and wheel swaps on.

Was teh 62 Belair Wagon ever released in the 1$ line of maisto, I have never seen one, I have always found the premium line that Maisto puts out could rival Johnny Lightning particularily since JL starting having plastic bases.
