Yes, I agree, and some hard to find ones in decent shape too! I have quite a few myself, but I'm still in need of the Cadillac sixty special, the T-bird, and the 1956 and 1959 Ford station wagons.

:toy: Thanks for the memories. I, too, look at my regular wheel models and think back to the days of playing with them on the floor with my cousin Tim whenever he would come and visit his grandparents.

I'm only 21, so these don't trigger the same memories as they do for you (besides memories of finding a Studebaker Lark Wagonaire at the Goodwill for a quarter)...but I will say that I do love these ones more than the newer Matchbox cars. They may not travel a mile in one push like redline Hot Wheels, but they are built like German tanks.

I see a lot of familiar faces in your picture show, but mine are in a bit worser shape. Always wanted that refreshments trailer ever since I was around 12, and seen it in Dan Johnson's Matchbox value guide from 1998 that I got in a bookstore in 2003 for $5.

And the wise men over at Mattel surely cocked up big style by not using castings from past decades for there silly attempt at the 60th birthday bash.Must have been a huge seller in the UK at £3.50 a pop that some retailers are now restocking the very first batch again,i was lucky bought the ones i wanted for next to nothing on an Asda(Walmart) clear out.

Please show some more if you have any.

Amazing. I only had a couple of these early MBs as a kid...and a few not depicted here. The taxi is most prominent from my childhood among these.

Very nice Lesneys, Steve. Your 27c Cadillac Sixty Special with black plastic wheels (BPW) is in very nice condition and is a desirable version. I have a nice example with silver plastic wheels (SPW), but probably more common.

These classic Lesneys are what got me hooked on 1:64 die cast in the mid sixties. I have most of my Lesneys in acrylic display cases in my garage. I look at them mostly everyday and still enjoy them a great deal.

But wait a minute, Steve. A Ferrari 250 GTL Berlinetta pulling a boat & trailer?? Really? :P

I also like the regular wheels Matchbox great run of pics!

Yes Mattel made them change to Superfast wheels or be pinched out ... Which eventually happened anyways.

Here is a pic swipe from Sid of the the very first Hot Wheels ever conceived ... Does the casting look familiar lol.

Never knew that! Interesting to see they took great care to remove the C-pillars but didn't fill in the spot for the wheel turning mechanism. Guisval eventually did a very similar looking Mustang dragster.

Its not very often I can add education to those already educated.Glad its good news Sean and Thanks for this site because I learn everyday too!

Trying to stay on topic ... The very first pic from the author was the "Memories Mustang" ... So think I can slide in this quote from Sid and a couple more of his pics.

2) Earliest known prototye of a Hotwheel used to demonstrate to the then Co founders and lead executives at Mattel a new line of cars (Hot Wheels), year's later Elliot Handler recalled this being the demo car he first saw. Elliot mentioned this at a dinner he was hosted at in 2006 at a highly caloric lunch at TK Burgers (owned by then avid collector "Beachbomb Jim".
The car was purchased by Bruce from a Mattel model maker who made the proto using a Matchbox mustang that he painted bright red raked it up a bit and put a blank base on , ( Camaro's used a similarly shaped base years later).
Without further ado here it is
