I have had these two Muky Plymouth Fury Cruiser's in my collection since the mid 1970's. I had a missionary friend in Argentina in the mid '70's and he sent me some of the various diecast cars from Argentina.

Great cars guys

Here's the Fury in its taxi version

Here's a shot of the blister card. I really love the names they came up with for some of these (McLaren MGA Turbo anyone?!). My favorite is #29 "Skoda Baby" (!!!?) which turns out to be a version of the HW Deora carrying pipes!

It's interesting that Muky's "Neet Streeter" copy offers an opening rumble seat...and Hot Wheels' original doesn't!

Hi Harvestman, that muky casting used to be hot wheel's classic 36 ford coupe

Yep. Neet Streeter is retooled...closed the rumble seat and added the hood scoop and took out the windows. The Muky is patterned after the original redline Classic 36 Ford Coupe, not the retooled Neet Streeter.

Now, LEO of India got the Neet Streeter, for several years before the tooling made it back to be re-included and more recently updated for release in the states. The yellow scalloped version from about 1997 is made in India. So in between that one and the last "Oldie but Goodie" from the early-mid '80s is a list of India only releases sold as LEO.

Sorry to disappoint you 'Cuda, but you've been snared in Muky's devilish name-trap! The "Chevelle SS" turns out to actually be an AMX!!

It's because the tools and dies they used were Mattel's from the redline era. These technically are Hot Wheels, just cheaper versions...well, at the time. Now, these will cost you more than a redline Hot Wheel car. lol

Again, not 100% true. A lot of the castings *were* reworked redlines, for sure. But the 40 Ford Coupe (Fat Fender 40) was *never* a redline, and I don't believe the Ferrari 308 (Racebait) was a redline either...or if so it was a very short run as a redline. I believe I've seen a VW bug in the Muky line as well that most certainly is not HW, redline or otherwise.

Yeah...looking again here, the 40 Ford and the 308 Ferrari are not HW, they have no more than a passing resemblance to the HW issues. Greenhouse on Ford is too tall and rear fenders are wrong, and the Ferrari is just not right at all.

I've always assumed that the Ferrari and Beetle were crude Matchbox copies, although the VW is a bit enigmatic - from the A-pillar back it looks much more like a Corgi Juniors rip-off, but the front end is more like the Matchbox's purer shape... any other suggestions??

I dunno...that VW looks about spot on for the MBX...look at the rear side windows, as well as the shape of the windscreen. The Corgi windscreen is flat across the top, the MBX has the proper arch replicated in the Muky.

As for the Ferrari...the Muky looks considerably cruder than the MBX. I would almost be inclined to think they borrowed that one from somebody like Summer (presuming on my part Summer has such a casting). I don't see the resemblance at all.
