I buy stuff like this all the time as you still can pick them up in UK at car boot sales for next to nothing mainly but of course you get your local id yacht who think they are rare,i find in that condition they make fabulous restoration projects and can easily be sold on to folk who are not so good with there hands.A decent dremel and some good quality tools plus an air brush can work wonders with items like in the pics.

So that's why I never find old Lesneys at the car boots! I gotta start getting up earlier...

I rarely find them at flea markets, too. I guess it's because many are worth way more than $0.50. In fact, I've only found one Regular Wheel model at my local flea market, the Dodge Crane Truck, which cost me $0.50. I have never, ever found a gray wheel one at a local flea market or antique store.

I can't really justify spending $20 or more on a Regular Wheel, so that's why I go to the flea market. I don't often buy diecast at a local antique store, but when I do, I usually plan my purchases around the most playworn models the seller has, because they may be half or less than one in pretty good shape.

This discussion reminds me of a blog post I wrote awhile back ... 'An Antique Store "Find"' on The Race Case

There was an antique store I used to go to on occasion in downtown Fargo, ND that had a pretty nice diecast section. Like many such stores they were convinced all Hot Wheels were worth premium prices and Matchbox was not. I would find regular wheel issues from time to time - none ever over $5 or $6 in price and always in pretty good condition that would come home with me.

I grew up in Bismarck, though I haven't lived there since '84. Still have family in the area. Always good to meet a fellow North Dakotan. Stay warm, friend.
