Mystery race car #2...need more ID help please!

This one may not prove as difficult as the F5000 car I also have posted. This F1 casting is clearly 1960's and has the windscreen installed backwards. Other than that, I have NO idea...thoughts?

Hmmmm... That's a tricky one! At first glance the slightly petite dimensions reminded me of that cute little Majorette F3 Alpine that came on a flatbed trailer in twin-packs, but it is obviously an 8-cylinder F1 car from the late 60s 3-liter era, so should be wearing big fat tires. The angle of the exhaust pipes makes me think of the Lotus 49, or maybe a Brabham. As there doesn't appear to be any holes where a plastic high wing could be missing, it's presumably a pre-aerofoil car from approx 1966/67. As for the manufacturer, I'm stumped. There is a faint aura of early Efsi/Best Box about it, but it's cruder and less solid than their castings (and, of course, it's not marked).

Just one question - did it come from the same source as the other mystery racer on your other thread? Could they both be customs by the same hobbyist? In which case, assuming he/she was American, it's maybe an Indycar rather than an F1. (We can discount it as an F1 Eagle, despite the dark blue color, as it doesn't have 12 cylinders!)

Hope someone can make more sense out of it than me.....

Thanks so much for the insights and getting the ball rolling. I picked up this one at a small antique store somewhere around Savanna, Georgia so no connection to the my other mystery car.

I agree that were most likely looking at a mid to lat '60 F1 car and I too was leaning on a Brabham...but I really am clueless!

My first two guesses were Majorette...already covered...and Kenner. In the 60's Kenner issued a grand total of three models, one of which was an open wheeler that looked a lot like this one.

This is the best I could find short notice, apparently not well covered.

I know I have seen the open wheeler listed for sale at TTP in the past, and didn't know what it was I was looking at at the time. Since then John sold his Dodge pickup here and I just missed it.

From Dave and Kimmo's book:
Quote:

Kenner- "One of their first diecast ventures was the "Supersport" series. Three miniatures were specifically produced, a red Firebird, a yellow Dodge pickup and a green F1 racer. All are fitted with clear window glazing, black solid plastic wheels, and smooth unpainted metal bases with no information provided."

It goes on to describe the playset I just attempted to show, which reminds me of something similar produced and sold by Matchbox right around the same time, 1968 +/-.

I would guess your little green open wheeler is the Kenner from the late 60s.
