I probably paid too much for this considering the paint wear on the "chrome" and lack of detail. But I knew I had to have it, it's also my only vinyl toy car to date. Like surströmming and julmust, early Volvos are an acquired taste, as are one-piece vinyl toy cars. :P

It certainly is a unique window on toy car history! Nice find!

Agreed! I love Volvos too (but not as much as Eastern European cars, non-mainstream Japanese makes such as Prince, Isuzu, Hopestar, Suzuki, Mitsubishi and Subaru, 70s/80s factory custom trucks, and Malaise Era American cars)

Nice find !
This was probably one of the more robust Volvo 's ever made and were a common sight on Belgian roads when I was young.

Thanks!

Upon googling, these are from the 80s and 90s, a near-mint one was on eBay for $14.95 (all of the detailing was custom work apparently, they are all one color from the factory), and the designer Björn Älskog worked for other European toy companies including Viking (which I believe is known for toy cars) and toy train maker Brio.

Viking or Wiking? Wiking is well known for its lineup of 1:87 scale cars.

Viking. I may well be confusing it for Wiking or Bruder tho. :/
