Excellent grouping of Merc wagons. The red HWs has a nice retro vibe to is. Wish M2 or someone else would do some hardtop wagons such as the Siku pictured.

All these years later the idea that Matchbox did the Mercury Cougar Villager wagon still cracks me up! Matchbox probably made a lot more of these than Ford ever did. What a truly strange life the Cougar nameplate had. Mustang-based Personal Luxury Coupe... bloated malaise-mobile... the Fox-body Zephyr clone (with another 1-year wagon)... formal-roofed Aero-bird (wish we had one of those in small scale!)... and finally, the last Cougar, which was originally designed to be the third-generation Ford Probe. If you want to see why Mercury no longer exists, look no further than the bungled history of the Cougar nameplate. Edited by Lane1through75, Jan 8 2014, 01:26 AM.

Just realized I had overlooked one more Mercury wagon in my collection - not one of the better issues from Matchbox - it is the Cars of the Stars Brady Bunch Mercury Sable. Overall not bad looking with the woody trim but the Brady Bunch hood tampo really takes away from the model.

Nice collection. Liking those police and FD models. I have a couple of those, but not all that you have. |

The Sable wagons are two I keep missing out on, but the star of this show is the Siku hands down no contest. As much as I like the Purple Passion casting...and I do...the woodie version leaves me nonplussed. I don't even have one and I'm not worried about it. The JL Mod Squad version is pretty cool though! |
