z28guy had sent me a PM asking about the storage cases that I use.

They are single sided with a handle at the top and hinged at the bottom.
They hold 24 diecast vehicles.
Made by Plano Molding Company in the U.S.
Model 5324 with SKU 24099 35324

I buy the Plano #5324 single door 24 compartment cases at Walmart WHEN I can find them.
They are in the hardware department.
Unfortunately, stocking is usually slow; so I grab them when I see them.
When I go into ANY Walmart store, I always check to see if that store has any of them on the shelves.
If yes, I buy.
The going cost was $6.97 plus taxes.
The cost may now be more because I haven't been in a Walmart store in 4 or 5 months.
I have over a 100 of them with about 60 holding JL castings, 35 holding GL castings, and others holding MBX castings.
I also have other kinds of cases that hold other diecast vehicles.

I didn't know that you were Canadian!

I have cases very similar to those, but I haven't seen them at WalMart before. I'll have to keep an eye out for them!

I have not seen these at my walmart ina few years. We have a 24 compartment case, but when you enlarge the compartments it only holds 3 across by 4 rows.

James, I haven't been in a Walmart store in many months and it has been a long time since I've looked for these cases.
Maybe they don't sell them any more.
I still have a few on hand that are empty (translates into I haven't filled; thus meaning that I haven't bought much diecast in more recent times).

The price of shipping to Canada is a killer.
My last order that I just received cost about $25 US for about 10 GL castings (and that was what I consider inexpensive compared to some other orders).
Is that too much greed by Canada Post on the cost of shipping to Canada to try to make up for all the money that they are losing or have lost?
You be the judge.
That adds a lot of extra cost to that little casting that sold for $6, $8, or $10 to just add to my collection.
And add in the exchange rates on the US dollar which just adds even more cost to that casting finally in my hand.
I don't think that many of our US collector friends realize how expensive it is to collect diecast here or in other parts of the world.

Example:

One copy of this casting sitting in the palm of my hand ended up costing about $14.
And depending on type of shipping could have cost me a LOT MORE.
Because of this malady, I have become much more selective on what I buy and from whom.

BYW, I hope that Ron (z28guy) sees this thread as he had inquired about these specific cases in a private message.

I remember shipping a car to Harry a couple years back and it cost me less than 3 bucks to ship from California, now it would cost almost 8 dollars to ship that same car, thats ridiculous.I feel for you guys up in the great white north!!!!

A lot of online shoppers here in Canada do not factor in the cost of shipping or the exchange rate when they buy an item out of the US.
The mentality is "oh it was $20 cheaper".
I.E.: cost $80 US instead of $100 CDN.
Yes they may have saved $20 on the cost in theory.
Then they have to pay Customs fees, shipping cost, and factor in the exchange rate.
That $80 US item just might have cost them $140 or $150 CDN in reality.
Business is great for online retailers (and many US e-bay sellers) and the Canadian Post Office.
BYW Canada Post is going through many changes and most if not all homes will NOT have door to door delivery in the very NEAR future.
We will be getting those huge communal mailboxes that could be a block or half a mile away (and possibly further).
Eventually Canada Post will just be another courier service similar to UPS or Loomis with occasional mail service.

I totally agree with you. Especially shipping, because it usually costs 2 to 3 times the amount that it ships to the USA for. I feel lucky since I'm on the west coast, with easy access to the USA, so I have an address that I ship packages to, saving a lot of money. However, for those who don't have such an easy access, I really feel for you guys.

Also, price is another factor. 4-5 years ago, Matchbox and Hotwheels used to be only $1 each. Now, the price keeps increasing, up to about $1.50 now in some places, and the stock seems to get worse and worse. I can go 30mins across the border and find Matchbox and Hotwheels for 97 cents each (price has never changed), plus much better stock (on average). We barely have Greenlight, Auto World, and a few other brands.

Plus, the issue of Canada post is a very large one. One large issue is whether those community mailboxes are safe. I've heard of ones that are already in use in townhouses have been broken in, etc. And, I agree with you, Canada post will become a courier service one day.

Not to intervene your conversations, but I simply order the Plano cases online for pickup at my local Walmart, no shipping charges. Just go to Walmart's website and do a search for the Plano model number. Easy as Eskimo Pies. I live about 20 miles from the Canadian border. Buffalo/Fort Erie, I know the price differences are out of sight sometimes.

Gerry, are those "Polar Caterpillars" residing in amongst your BWF castings, trying to get warm?

They sure are trying to stay warm at least six months of the year and sometimes longer.
Remember that I live in the "Great White North".
Can you really blame them for wanting to stay warm.

Long story short; the "Polar Caterpillars" were strictly used for safe packing to protect the castings for a very long return road trip a few years ago.
The method worked quite well.
