Everyone's in a Zylmex-buying mood lately. Same with me. I got both these lots, one Zylmex and one Playart for $8 each. Seperate sellers and seperate days. The Playarts are like mint-condtion. The Zylmexes are a bit more played-with, but I had none of them already. I have never seen the Bronco or Blazer before, and the VW Bug is a variation, with a metal base. The Audi police cars are variations too, metal and plastic bases. ![]() ![]() Dig the shag carpeting! ![]() ![]() Very little scratches!

Congrats, Looks like some good deals! Appears the Audi police has different color interiors as well, or is that lighting. The Playarts do look really good, I'm amazed a loose pipe truck still has its pipe load, that's good to have, I always thought their police van was a pretty cool model too. |

Wow! I didn't even notice! You're right, the interiors are different on the Audi cop cars. One is a blood red, he other is more of a beige. |

The shreds of a carpet wrapped around the axles is a great touch...I remember as a kid having that very issue with my cars. |

Oh, man. The two Audi cop cars next to each other is like night and day. One's near-mint, the other, not so much.

Great scores! I love thrift stores for finding these lots like this. Nice Playarts, they're different enough I keep my eyes out for them. Jerry |

Sadly, the chain thrift stores around here don't sell diecast. Rumors from others is that employees in the stockrooms just pocket them for their kids and "steal" them, or they get tossed in a random cardboard box, and when the box gets full, they mummify it in packing tape and sell it for $20 or something. My biggest mistake was selling a Breakaway Bucket I found in the 25 cent bin on eBay (before I was a collector). I got about $40 for it in the condition it was in (just lightly nicked and missing wheel chrome). I still regret that decision, but oh well. Live and learn. eBay has become my thrift store. I do go insane from time to time and pay a lot for something I really want, but most of the time I stick to the "under $1 per car" logic by adding the auction price and shipping price together, then dividing by the number of cars in the auction. |

For volume of common cars that is a pretty good rule of thumb, I've used it myself...until I got flooded with a lot of stuff I wasn't too interested in. Redlines / Toppers are another matter, I might bump that rubric up to $3-5 per car, depending what was in the lot. If there is one cherry piece in the lot I am after and think I might part with the rest to cover the cost, I've been known to do that as well...and then end up keeping all of them anyway. I found a pink redline Cord that way once, hiding in a lot of Majorettes and early Superfast MBX. Ended up keeping the Majos and MBX and the Cord too! A lot depends (pardon the pun) on what is in the lot...I've seen quite a few lots that weren't worth the money to me, not because they weren't a good deal but because they were common cars I already have multiples of. But if I see a gem buried in there and the lot is reasonable I might go for it anyway...but that's just how I go about it. Even then you have to set a firm limit to what you are willing to pay and not get into a bidding war. I saw a good lot of late 70s HW once, with a green Ford pickup offroader the name of which escapes me just now, but it is a very sought after alternate color that fetches north of $200 in mint condition all by itself...*when* you can find one! The balance of the lot were decent cars that looked to be in good shape, but most were common issues that can be had for a buck or two. You had to scan the lot really carefully to see the green truck....but I wasn't the only person to see it! The lot sold for almost $300..and I'm sure the bidding war was all over that one piece. The rest of the pieces combined didn't come close to that total on the best of days. ![]() This is the casting I was referring to: Baja Bruiser. Common in blue and orange, less so in white, rare in green. |

Oh yes, I know that too. I scan over the lot and go "hmmm, pass, pass pass, pass". I'm at the point now where I do start seeing the same cars twice. So if I see a lot that has too many cars I already have, I'll pass on it. I do usually increase my limit price to $5 a car if it's a redline lot, as they are usually $10 each for beaters on eBay anyways |
