My set of Kyosho Ferrari Series 9 cars came in today and I'm like a kid on Christmas! There's not a dud in the entire set. The F12 Berlinetta and 458 Italia GT2 are slightly repetitive since CM models released both recently, but they are both still very nice. The LaFerrari is gorgeous, and will probably get my vote for favorite model of the year. Now, on to the multitude of pictures!

I also got the two secret models, the 458 Italia GT2 and F12 Berlinetta in Matte Black, although I'm using them to trade for the LaFerrari 2 car special edition set.

Nice! All of them! How are the tires in the wheel-wells? Has Kyosho corrected the problem on non-rolling models yet? (I swore off Kyosho after the last few purchases let me down with models that couldn't roll).

It's hit or miss still. The FF doesn't roll worth a darn, but the GT2 rolls amazingly well. Even within the same model though it varies. The red LaFerrari rolls great, but the black and yellow don't. On the Ferrari's since you put them together yourself, if they don't roll you can usually fix it pretty easily with some minor filing of the base. Everything since the last Alfa set they did has had screws instead of rivets which also makes it easier to adjust. It's never really bothered me so I haven't tried filing the base, but I know a lot of people have tried.

As much I really like Kyosho, these models just don't seem to do it for me, especially at the insane prices that we have to pay here overseas. The quality is really hit and miss - like you mention the rolling wheels, the paint on the yellow Ferrari The Ferrari looks horrid, and as nice as that F12 looks, I think the CM model F12 looks way better compared to it.

The very first Kyosho models are really crude and horrid, then they hit a really sweet spot with their Audi set and possibly the AMG set, but looking at that FF, that thick A pillar is simply inexcusable.

Probably the best looking model of the set is the GTO.

I agree about the earlier releases, but I guess I don't see the faults you are pointing out. I think the A pillar on the FF is probably more my photography skills than the actual model, I do see what you are talking about but in hand it really doesn't look bad at all, the A pillar is relatively thick on the real car too. The mirrors could use a little more definition though, maybe that's what's making them appear too thick.

I do agree about the CM F12 being better, The CM one is more detailed and more defined. I don't think anyone is going to complain about the detail or definition on the front and rear end of the Kyosho, but the little air intake wing thing that connects the front fender to the A pillar needs to be sculpted deeper on the Kyosho. If I had to choose one, I would choose the CM, but I wanted both.

I can't figure out what you are seeing in the yellow LaFerrari though, the paint looks pretty great to me. Would you mind elaborating? I do like hearing both sides so I'm curious.

All in all, there are specific examples of cars they have done that are better, and specific cars that are worse, but I think it's a pretty great set all in all, both in quality and model choice. I know everyone harps on the wheels not rolling, but I guess I learned to accept that first with Minichamps, then Autoart both of which are hit or miss as to whether they roll too.

Are they supposed to come without the wheels and axles?

Yes, Hot Wheels has the exclusive license for 1/64 Ferrari's so they are sold as model kits. All you have to do is pop in the seat, pop the tires on the wheels and then it all screws together.

Oh ok so on the yellow LaFerrari, see how the paint bleeds through edges and how the underbody color comes through the door openings and such. I expect to see this on a $1 Hot Wheels or MBX but not a Kyosho.

To add re. Hot Wheels Ferrari licensing, what they have is an exclusive license to make Ferrari display models (regardless of scale). So manufacturers get around this by offering simple kits that you need to put together. I have no clue how DMC and CM get around this.

I see right above the Ferrari Shield on the A pillar where the yellow and black bleed together, and in the picture I will admit really doesn't look very good, but in hand even knowing it is there it doesn't look bad at all. I have examples of Hot Wheels RLC cars, Minichamps, and Auto Art cars that all have worse blemishes (not many but some). And I definitely have some Johnny Lightning, Greenlight, and Auto World cars that have worse blemishes. That's still the only spot I see though as far an uneven lines, but I don't know if its the picture making things look worse than they are or I just don't know what to look for and can't see it. There looks like some unevenness in some of the pictures near the C pillar, but that is the way the actual body line of the mold is.

As far as the edges around the door openings go, to me it looks like this was done on purpose, in order to accentuate the cut lines. I would much rather have a car that has thin paint on the edges than too thick of paint as to me it adds a little more definition and makes the details pop out a little easier in this small of scale. I think part of it too is the lighting making it look much more noticeable, in hand I can't see the base at all, everything looks an even yellow, just thin enough to keep the lines defined.

I do appreciate the response, even though they are my favorite brand, I by means think they are perfect and can easily find flaws in many if I try hard enough. Between Kyosho, Autoart and Minichamps, I think they are all the same level. Some examples of each brand have glaring issues, some minor issues, and some are close to perfection. CM is definitely a step above Kyosho, but they don't have the breadth of product yet. I hope they can continue to grow and start making some more extensive releases. Even though we have to pay much more for them here, these are $6 cars, and when compared to other things at that price I think they surpass most everything else in accuracy and detail.

I like the giallo fly, but I know if I could afford a real LaFerrari then I'd want Nero.
