Matchbox Collector
|
News from Mattel has brought some interesting information about the 2015 Matchbox year that should excite collectors. It is strongly rumored by many that 2015 will be a huge turn-around for Matchbox, like 2005 was after Hero City. After Mattel released its sales report for 2013, facts about 2015 started popping up. Here is the latest from T-Hunted: (Google translation explains the spotty English) "One of the changes we can expect Mattel to line 2015 and we've heard some rumors about it, is that the Hot Wheels line is more geared to children under licensed cars (real models) and more miniatures drawn by them (models fanciful). With this the Matchbox models should gain more licensed and take a line more geared for adult audiences and collector. There is even hope that new collectible lines and most expensive Matchbox appear in 2015. But this, of course, is still speculation." You read it right. Matchbox will be heading back to its old ways, which means realistic designs, licensed cars, and collector lines. 2015 should be a fun year for all! A designer from the R&D center from Matchbox was also questioned recently by another Matchbox enthusiast, and commonly referred to the future Matchbox as 'real'. So, get your wallets stocked and saved up for next year; it should be a big one! |

I am most interested in who the collector is, care to name him? I don't want to be too excited, but I really hope that Matchbox will return to the 2005-2012 years, easily the best years in recent times. But, as Ricky said: I'll believe it when I see it. |

Please be careful what you write here, you don't want to start any "Chinese Whispers", obviously I know you are referring to KeefyD who has posted a great blog with some unbelievable "inside" information which is now currently being discussed over on the MCF but at no point did he name the person, nor did he even indicate (to my knowledge) who his contact is and what position that person holds within Mattel. The source of his information has chosen to remain anonymous for obvious reasons and I don't think it helps anyone if we start speculating as to who the person is and what position they hold within the company. |

Matchbox Collector

Brad, Bill, I am not referring to Keefy. Another friend of mine asked a fellow from the R & D Center at Matchbox (as far as I was told) about the general ideas for the upcoming Matchbox year. I was not told the name, I was asked by the collector to remain anonymous as well. The questions did bring up the loose idea that Matchbox was now 'real' several times. I suppose it is the timing that made it look this way, but I received these questions a decent time ago. They are still fresh. It was the T-Hunted post that pushed me to alert everyone here about the strong 2015 speculation. Make you sure you guys know before you speak . . . Edited by mbx64, Jan 19 2014, 09:25 AM.

@mbx64 If you re read what i wrote i actually never mentioned Keefyd in person and actually gave you the opportunity to reply so i do not have to be careful on what i wrote. You have read the Keefyd exclusive interview and in just a few short words Mattel have ring fenced HW from predators by use of MB it is as simple as that. |

I was referring to both you and Brad. But yes, the KeefyD Interview is very nice. But he said he did not want it posted here, so I let it be upon his request. |

Time, as always, is the deliverer of Trvth. We shall have to wait and see what it brings. Although 2013 wasn't too great, the 57 Chevy convertible in baby blue, among others, gave me hope that MB hadn't gone to the Tampo Side for good, and that there was hope for sanity and normalcy in the diecast line at MB. Since I only buy "what I like" these days, I don't think I'll be opening my wallet any wider than normal, as I don't buy foreign ( usually, although the TVR and Volvo P1800 were exceptions, as was the Mini ) or supercars, I prefer regular commercial trucks, daily driver automobiles, and the like. Matchbox did OK in 2013, not a spectacular release year, but some good winners for me. First, we gotta get through 2014, another dregs year, or some good ones mixed in? Again, time to wait. No one is stocking MB on the pegs in Virginia, they're all empty at most stores except for Christmas left-overs. So I guess we're waiting for the new 2014 releases? Time to relax and build up more Plano cases I guess. ![]() JErry |

I know you were referring to both but you are tarring me with the same brush for no reason as i wrote the following "I am most interested in who the collector is, care to name him?" I see no mention in the name Keefyd there do you.? |

If Matchbox decides to include more realistic models, I'm all for that. Hope that means they will use the oversized wheels less often as well. |

Maybe there will be a new "premium" series, with rubber tires and intricate details. I really don't care if Matchbox takes a price hike, as calculating for inflation, the Matchbox of the '60s and '70s would cost about $3 or $4 today.

I would like a better idea what they mean by "real." For example, the 70s Pontiac Firebird is based on a real car, but loses realism when the give it a chrome interior and tacky graphics. If "real" means more licenses casting, fine, but at least make them quality castings. I'm happy to pay more. |

We can hope this is true. Until the new for 2015 models are announced in July at Albuquerque it's just speculation. Remember in 2012 there was a list floating around the interwebs about a great new lineup of 2013 models. It was of course more a collectors wish list. It gained traction as 'official' list that was put to bed when we heard the new model lineup was announced in July of that year. |

It's the "real" castings that sell. How come there aren't more Dodge A-100's available? Seagrave Firetrucks? Cadillac ambulances? etc, etc..... Realism is what attracted me to Matchbox versus Hot Wheels in the 60's. |

There is no demand from the target audience of 2 to 5 year olds, the collectors side of current Matchbox is so small it is not even cost effective to print a poster. |

It turns out the questions I referred to earlier were totally false. I thought they seemed a little sketchy. So, scratch what I said about those questions. But you can still discuss KeefyD's legitimate review. |
