Hey all, This Ford Consul Granada recently arrived here.It was purchased from a reputable seller who said they bought it around 30 years ago and removed it from the original packaging. It appears to be a Schuco made in Germany casting although it does not say that on the base.Any ideas what company produced this car and or pics of any other similar examples that were made in Brazil. Hi Eric. You have a really nice item there A lot of the Schuco 1/66 castings were used in Brazil by a company called REI based in Manaus. The colors are often different from the Schuco originals and some have stickers applied. I have just 2 examples. As you can see, they were sold in clear hard plastic boxes just like the Schucos, and the picture card with the BMW is a nice touch. As you can see from the Merc, the bases were sometimes also painted. Just for the record, REI also produced their own versions of several Siku castings from the late 70s and early 80s, and probably other manufacturers as well. Happy collecting REI BMW Turbo ![]() REI Mercedes-Benz 350 SL

Great info and pics guys Thanks! Nice cars so gives me more to look for aye. Also interesting about Siku castings being copied and possibly others.Im curious did Schuco go out of business and sell them,or were they just cleaning house so to speak. Anyways "REI" is my new word for the day Yay. Eric |

The Schuco name was resurrected by Simba/Dickie and they sold items in 87, 72 plus 64 scales. Those were produced by Hongwell and High Speed in the 2000s. I'm unsure the current status of the brand since High Speed is out of business. |

I have the Fire Chief car that dug my toys has and a Siku VW bus. I've seen others for sale but they always command a premium. Interesting that the knock offs of all brands are more valuable than the originals.![]() ![]()

Hey that looks familiar! I have the same one, same condition. Got it from a small hobby shop in St.Cloud FL., they had a few of them The owner said the guy he got them from said they were special issues or something, he didn't know much about why, but said this guy had a box of them, and they were all in the same chipped condition, but was told they were all new and never played with, even though they looked worn. |

WIKIPEDIA INFO Schuco went bankrupt in 1976. An English company Dunbee-Combex-Marx (DCM) acquired Schuco (or large parts of it), but it too went bankrupt in 1980. Eventually, rival German toymaker Gama Toys, acquired the rights to Schuco in the mid 1980s, and, for a time, new Gama Toys were 1:43 scale Schucos put directly into Gama boxes - with no name change on the base of the vehicle. In the U.S. during the 1980s, Schucos were marketed by the Lilliput Motor Company of Yerington, Nevada, with Lilliput name appearing right on the colorful boxes (Johnson 1998, p. 210) Force writes that about the time of the Gama purchase, Schuco dies were sold off to many other companies in different countries (Force 1990, pp. 218–219). Some appeared with "Made in Russia" on their bases. The MIR Toy factory in Mir, Bulgaria (later to become Mikro'67 (see website link below), reproduced at least 16 different Schuco vehicles through the 1990s, in several colors. Sometimes they were packaged with "Made in Germany" still marked on their bases - but after a time this was removed. Some Schuco model castings then appeared as Gamas; some went to France and became Norevs, and some went to Brazil and were sold by Rei (Force 1990, p. 218.) |
