I'm currently working on a Nissan 300ZX that I got as part of a 'goody box' (bunch of assorted cars for a really cheap price) bought from a local antique shop. It's similar to the one pictured below:![]() It's stamped Maisto and Nissan 300 ZX on the bottom. I'd like to know the release dates and stock/catalogue number, if such info exists. I've tried my usual research outlets, and have come up goose eggs, except for a few pics. Any and all info that any of you might have would be greatly appreciated. Thanx! |

Well, Maistos are difficult to come up with a date on. This casting dates back to the original MCToy era, but if yours has Maisto on the base, it is a newer one. This casting, like many of Maistos castings, was available for many years (10+), from the late 80's (MCToy) through the 90's (Maisto), in the same color. There is no casting number or catalog number for Maustos that I am aware of. |

Is this a descendent of the Zee casting? |

Support your local demo derby.

I would assume it isn't but who knows in some cases. Dean is correct that you can sorta date the time period by the base and the name listed for the company. |

The Maisto casting is an original. The Maisto is somewhere in the neighborhood of 1/58 scale, compared to the approx 1/64 of the Zylmex. |

I haven't measured it yet, but 1:58 seems about right, by the general 'look'. It's also noticeably larger than my HW 300ZX. Thank you for your help. I also have a Maisto Ferrari Testarossa that looks to be from the same time period. I would imagine everything you've told me applies to that one, too. |

The Testarossa even came in two casting variants - with and without opening doors. |

I found this online. No idea who owns the photo or the set. I remember the person saying that this was from Maisto/MC. Toy, but it looks like the Zee Toys logo in the bottom left corner? Look on the 4th row, 4th from the left for your car.

I'm not so sure that is a Zee Toys logo down there...and a lot of the cars are recognizably Maisto / MC toy. I see at least 6 I can confirm are Maisto right off. |

The Firebird is ex-MC Toy. I have the MC Toy version in black with gold bird.
