A funny looking Corgi from the Whizwheels line.

Nice one Christophe  This is Corgi's representation of the kind of home built oval-track stock cars that were popular in Britain in the 1960s and 70s. It's a great period item. Corgi did a small number of variations on 2 different castings. Mine are missing the racing number stickers that were originally attached to the roof sign boards.

I didn't know that. Very interesting, and I really like the purple one with the red roof.

Support your local demo derby.

Really like the roof signs were casted as part of the tops!

Interesting model of an interesting car.

The theme of a big diecast manufacturer producing a car from a small-time level of racing seems to have been explored by Hot Wheels as well...

The hood on the Derek Fiske car lifts up to reveal a painted engine

Fiske and Todd Sweeney were actual drivers of the period, and the Corgi models are accurate to their real race cars.

(The images below are all from Google)

This great scan from a German magazine shows not only the Sweeney car (bottom right), but also the splendid Jaguar S-Type pace car that also made its way into the Corgi Rockets range

I often wondered about these! Nice to know they are patterned on real cars!

Wow! Once again new things learned about our little cars. I was not aware that these had been patterned after real race cars in the UK.
