Daron (aka RealToy) UPS Freight Airport Gift Set

Yes, those same ones you see collecting dust in airport gift shops for $30 for 5 or 10 years. I am starting to collect these (want to get all the ones available), but the trick is the price. Because the airport charges a million dollars for these playsets, people on eBay think they can charge the same price. It's hard to find them for under $20.

I got this one for $13.82. The jet is pretty well done. You know, people always hate on RealToy because they rip everyone's designs off. RealToy isn't a bad company, their castings are actually well-detailed and weighty. They are just the underdog, and nobody really pays any attention to them.

These sets are actually quite collectable, as a lot of the airline companies have merged, changed their logos/names, or folded out completely.

I had one of these sets when I was a kid, the United Airlines with the 1990's livery. Some day I will get that one back too.

But here's the package. I totally am in love the artwork on the back of the box.

Sorry about the darkening here. I need a bigger flatbed scanner.

Padded envelope shipping yikes ... Drives me nuts when sellers do that even with a dollar item.

Anyways sounds like a good deal ... Are you going to open the set ... :P

Yes these Realtoy/Darons are expensive. A FDNY set of 5 vehicles, 3 firefighters, and some other accessories set me back $25 when I was in NYC, but I later learned that this was pretty much what they sell for on Amazon.

In NYC, a single Daron car sets you back $5

A UPS set...impressive! Seems like most of these sets are airline specific (United at United terminals, etc). I picked one up for Northwest in Detroit as a souvenir of my flight to China. I've thought the same about collecting all I could find, but they take a lot of room...I don't know how to display mine without stacking stuff in front of it...which defeats the purpose. I noticed a lot of them (yours doesn't) have an Audi Quattro, so I'm kinda passively looking for the different versions of the Quattro as a compromise.

Good luck in your search! Keep watching, good deals will turn up from time to time...just be ready to pounce when they do!

I know, I don't like it either. It's not even padded. It's fiber-paper....like that black stuff you use in gardens to keep the weeds out.

It's only sealed with a single piece of scotch tape, no tearing necessary, so I'll likely do photographs with it for my database/catalog.

$25? Woah. I'm very lucky then. Bought this NYPD 5-car pack from this Chinese guy living in NY, on eBay, for $8.99 with shipping.

Like the airplane model. Did they use that same casting in all these sets?

From what I have seen, they had two jumbo jet models. One for the cargo planes, and another for the passenger jets. Cargo planes got the quad-engined one, and the passenger jets got the dual-engined ones. They did put careful thought into these sets.

That's a version of the Air Force One set that I haven't seen before that includes Air Force Two!

I have that set, although much more basic with just the Jumbo Jet. I had lots of fun with that set, that's for sure!

No problem! Just returning the courtesy. You all have helped me out so much here with my diecast identification in the past. ^_^

Nice score. I got my Daron Chevron set for $25 on Diecast Models Wholesale, and the canopy top broke promptly... eventually I'm gonna fabricate a 50s-style canopy supported by the food mart & center pole...

I bought (aka: overpaid) that Air Force One playset back in 2000 or 2001 when I was in San Diego for college. I found it, and some of the other Airport playsets, at a small independent (and expensive) toy shop located inside the Horton Plaza mall, a high-end shopping mall in downtown San Diego. I had to have the Presidential / Secret Service Chevy Caprice and Ford Galaxy van.

That's not a jumbo jet...jumbo jets are quad engined, and usually only refer to the Boeing 747 (which Air Force One is.) The smaller dual-engined jet is a Boeing 757, aka Air Force Two.

RealToy has several different castings for planes (Boeing 737, Airbus A320, Airbus A380, Boeing 757, Boeing 777, and Boeing 747.)
