I got lucky on Sunday morning, as I hit the Wal-mart before work at the hobby shop in the AM, I got these two hard-to-snag VW Drag Buses. They hadn't been there Friday when I last hit the store. I guess VW Buses are really holding their desirability, although I see the Greenlight and M2 buses still stilling around on shelves. Anyhow, a nice grab.

Great looking Looney Tunes ride - I have yet to see any of this series on the pegs. Neat that they are using some of the characters one doesn't normally get to see on series such as this - Foghorn Leghorn and the Chicken Hawk! Keep hoping to find Pepe LePew and his pink convertible. :D

This is not directed at OP, but what exactly is it with drag buses that make dealers hoard them? The most ridiculously hoarded one is that all plastic color shifter one.. Saw some dealers trying to get $10 or more for them when they're still fairly easy to get off the pegs. I don't have a problem with pulling a bus off the peg if you like them, but are these buses always produced in limited numbers or something?

New casting? Quick! Take it apart!
It's a HW cult thing, Clem. The DB was one of the heaviest castings ever made as a mainline car. Since then, it only shows up in premium or special issues. That casting is really a panel van, not a "bus." Since the frenzy grew, HW introuduced a new "bus" with all the side windows, and also a VW "Drag Truck." The latter two are a good way for new collector's to get into the frenzy somewhat, with the castings being sold in large retail stores.

I saw lots of the Looney Tunes buses in stores here, and got a few for future trades. At our monthly diecast swap meet, just about every table was selling some of these.

I find most collectors that get bit by the Drag Bus snake are usually ones that are looking for profit in the hobby, just like many of the Treasure Hunt sharks.

To each his own, in enjoying the hobby.

Plenty of Pepe pink convertibles in Virginia stores, so far. The VW bus, however, has been few and far between. I snagged 3, one for a friend of mine in Nebraska who loves VW buses, and at least one for trade. I've found the Wolverine bus and the color shifter bus, 1 each so far. Those are even harder to find for me around here.

Funny you should mention the Pepe Le Pew pink Ford convertible...that is the *only* one I wanted from this series, and I got one a couple days ago and set it free to sit in the pinky collection. I could care less about the rest.

I made the mistake of telling my wife about the Pepe car, she collects pink cars and likes Pepe. Unfortunately none of the stores around here carry that series.

It's been a few days, but when I get a chance I will take a look. There were quite a few when I picked mine up.
