Lamborghini Veneno; Kyosho vs. Hot Wheels - Update: Tomica Added

Here's a little comparison between the Kyosho and Hot Wheels versions of the Lamborghini Veneno. The Hot Wheels is pretty nice overall. It's obviously no where near as detailed as the Kyosho and there is something about the way the windshield meets the hood that seems kind of off to me proportionally, but I will give them a pass on that as overall it is pretty close and all the mold lines are pretty crisp and the tampos are very nice. The Kyosho on the other hand is beyond exceptional. The Veneno is definitely a cool car; it might not be classically beautiful, but it is the stuff of childhood bedroom posters. In real life, I'd love to see it but it's far from the top of my favorite cars. The Kyosho however, is easily in the top of my favorite models by them. In my opinion it one of their best efforts.

Very nice comparison, Ben! I love the Kyosho, but for $1, the Hot Wheels model is a very good model.

You know, I agree with Stampede - the Kyosho is nice (but not $40 nice) while the HW is exceptional!

The Hot Wheels definitely is very nice, and at $1 wins hands down when you factor in value. If someone were to detail out the vent work and mirrors it would be even better. I paid $11 for the Kyosho, and for that price difference the Kyosho wins in my opinion. I don't think I would have ever paid $40 for it, but after seeing it in person I do think it is worth a premium over the original retail price, maybe not that much but it really is one of the most technically well done models I have ever seen. I will say that given how angular the car is, Hot Wheels really surprised me with how well done it is and I know it is one that everyone will be thrilled to find it.

Hot Wheels did a bang up job on their version of the casting. Not bad at all for a $1 car. Sweet!

If you take price out of the picture, this kyosho is one of the best i've ever seen and does this particular lambo due justice.

Here are some updated pictures with the Tomica version added in. Hot Wheels on left, Tomica in the middle, and Kyosho on the right. I really like all three, but the clear winner is still the Kyosho. It's not only the best of the three but one of the best Kyosho has done period. The Hot Wheels and Tomica both have some exaggerated or innacurate proportions that are typical with their respective brands. Both are very close though and still worth getting, but you can tell the Hot Wheels is a Hot Wheels and the Tomica is a Tomica just from the execution.

Thanks for adding the Tomica model, Ben!

Looking between the Tomica and the Hot Wheels, it's a pretty tough choice. As mentioned, both brands have their own strengths and weaknesses, so it's always nice to have the two in hand to compare.

I love Tomica but once you factor in price and those oh so tiny wheels, I think it's going to have to come in dead last. :(

I have all three as well. The Tomica is a little off but is good for them and will make a great limited version. The hot wheels is fantastic for a dollar I've picked up a bunch for customs. The kyosho is just ridiculously good. They have been getting better and better over the years. My ever increasing collection would attest. If you balk at the prices try to be proactive in your purchases. Don't hesitate to preorder the models you like, once they come out its too late especially if there well done. If you can swing it buy the whole set, it seems much but you get all the cars, and if you price out the ones you want its usually cheaper. Plus some of the extra cars you get turn out to be great, like the Bentley set I bought the whole set and some of the extra cars turned out to be can't miss models that I'm glad I have now.

Couldn't agree more! Getting the older releases is a slow and expensive undertaking. But getting them as they are released is so much easier to get them for a good price and grow a collection quick.
