Thats a cool car! Yeah Mattel has done it for sure several times.

Here is a borrowed pic for us to enjoy for moments ... Original HW Redline with an "Open Shock" variation.Look close between the radiator and the front wheels for a casting difference.

Ok Daniel I figured out the problem.The original pic that I posted and your quoted pic all show up here on this screen and its only because Im signed on to the site from which the pic originates.

Therefore this "Borrowed" pic becomes a "Swiped" pic.I know George and its all good.

Yes original ... Thing is that it was a short run because such fine lines were present.In other words the tools that defined the Open Shock casting quickly became worn out and began to bleed into a closed shock casting.So Mattel intentionally altered the casting tools back in the day just like the one you have pictured above.
