I always liked this truck, even though I always thought they should have had emergency lights on the roof of the cab, but it's great having the tiller on the trailer.

I remember seeing a real tractor/trailer type ladder truck with a tillerman out back, driving in a small shopping center parking lot one time, I don't know if the truck was new and they were just practicing maneuvers, but I was amazed at how tight of turns the thing could make.

Tiller trucks are amazing. We have one at work and although it's more than twice as long as our engines it can turn tighter corners.

I;ve always liked this truck as well.

The tractor came with a few variations including this one that you have shown above -

Posted Image

It also came with different wheels and a cab without air horns and spoiler -

The trailer also came with a variation as either a printed tamp -

or with a decal instead -

The truck also came with FDNY markings -

and a "Fire Dept" decal -

It never ceases to amaze me all the variations that can be found on many major brands. I used to think having ONE example of a particular fire engine/truck was all I needed; condition (mint, whatever) wasn't an issue. But back then I had no idea that castings got modified at the factory, or tampos got replaced by/replaced decals or labels, etc. Now I'm in the insurmountable process of thinking I might actually find some variation and whether to buy it when I do. I didn't even consider the color of the plastic ladder an important difference until just the past few years---and I've been a "collector" for almost 50 years!

This has been a somewhat unnerving revelation to me. Do I have room for more of the "same" model?

The late wheels looks like a Thailand issue. I have a few of the France issues myself. No lights because the cab unit is just the same cab unit that Majo used across the line.

Hey Blair - I think it still comes down to collecting what you want. If you want the many variations then it will keep you busy for a long, long time. Outside of color/markings I don't really get that much into the variation scene but that is my choice. I know I had some non collectors visiting my toy rooms one day and they wanted to know why I had so many of the same ambulance - I pointed out it was the same casting but each one had different markings, etc. The bottom line is to have fun and enjoy! :D
