I visited a local flea market on Friday and saw an 8 shelf display case for semi-trucks that was marked for $75. It could fit 16 total true 1/64 truck/trailers or several more flat beds/other items. I see these sell new from Carney for about $121.00 on their website/ebay. I didn't have the cash on me Friday to buy but am seriously thinking of heading back today and buying it. Am really needing a way to display some of my 64 scale semi trucks from DCP, ERTL and M2 as they just sit on a shelf right now. Now have the cash and think i'm heading back over this afternoon to see if the guy still has one. Said he had 3 on Friday.

sounds like a good deal !! Mirrored back and hinged door ?? Hope he has one left for you !! and if you get it, make sure you find the studs in the wall before mounting. 16 true 1/64 th tractor trailers, especially ERTL's are rather heavy piece of shelving GOOD LUCK !! btm |

Went back over the flea market this afternoon and he had all three left. We see each other at local auctions & I've bought from him often before so he knocked the price down to $70. It's made by Giovanni Plastics, INC in Struthers, Ohio. They would later be bought by Carney in '07. It has a small scratch on the front hinged door and a small ding in the glass but it's really hard to tell. I'm not complaining one bit for the price. Took a good hour using a stud finder, a level and measuring tape to make sure I drilled into studs. Wasn't easy to put up but I like the end results. There's a large local farm toy show coming up in two weeks and he'll be there. I've sent an email hoping to secure a 2nd one. Would have preferred one with a non-mirror backing but beggars can't be choosers!!! Really happy to have found this. This previously held Winross semi-trucks by the previous owner according to the vendor. It's so nice to finally be able to properly display a part, albeit a small portion, of my large 64 scale tractor/truck collection. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The Motormax Super Duty Fords were acquired very generously from James in one of our many trades over the years. They're among the most cherished in my collection. ![]() ![]() The tractors with triples and larger duals don't all fit so they sit on top. ![]() I easily have enough to fill up two or three more of these though my wall space & wallet are limited!!!

Thanks Wes. The 13th of July can't arrive fast enough! It's the National Farm Trail Show which for various reasons I've never made it to before despite the short 40 mile drive.

Hey Zach, Looks great !! Glad the guy still had them for you !! Maybe he will let you put them on lay away or something . Never easy mounting these things, but looks like you did a great job. A lot of nice looking models you have on display. can't wait to see the other one filled up as well I see you found a spot of honor for the Werner !! btm Edited by bigtractormike, Jun 30 2014, 04:07 AM.

Nice display, wish I had the $ to afford those, not to mention the unencumbered wall space to hang them. Sigh. Very sweet collection, too. Jerry |

Heard back from him today and he'll have one saved for me at the next toy show. Perhaps my collection will finally look halfway organized for a change instead of just sitting on flat shelves. Kinda surprised how life like the Werner appears. Other than the MB and JL Scout + IH '65 1200 everything is suppose to be true 1/64 in the box. Makes for a nice bit of consistency when displaying your collection. |

Any of you guys joined Pinterest? I wasn't sure what it was about, until doing some recent research. So I joined up, and did a search on diecast displays. Got a few hits, some stuff out there. Found this large wooden display that will hold 180 cars. Pretty nice! And only $69, not an unreasonable price for a large display. Obviously the acrylic looks sweet, but at that price I have to pass. Here's the picture of the wooden one I found. Also an interesting repurpose, a wooden venetian blind unit used to display diecast, not bad! Jerry ![]()

I am glad things worked your way on the display cases. They look nice and sturdy as well. I hate to see diecast pile up in packaging. That is not the way to enjoy collecting. I didn't realize the size of you collection. Thanks for the look! |

Jerry, I have seen the wooden shelves on ebay and have been very tempted, but usable wall space is becoming an adventure. The Venetian blinds are interesting. I can't believe they can hold that weight. Is there any sagging problems? What a mess if a cord breaks. Eoowee! |

I wouldn't be opposed to the large wooden 180 display if it had a clear plastic cover to it. I spend enough time dusting an entire roomful of 1/16 scale tractors on shelves as is let alone add more dusting/cleaning time. That's why for me this Giovanni case is a great deal. Perhaps once a year I'll have to wipe off everything instead of 4/5 or more. Rather just spend the money on a case with a cover than one w/out. Found it interesting mine is 24" tall by 38" wide and the standard 8 open shelf one from Carney is only 24"x34". |

I own two of those 180 wooden displays, and a smaller one as well. they work great. If I had the drive I could probually get a piece of plexyglass and add hinges to put fron door covers on them but havent yet. the seller is also a great guy to work with |

Not my display, I just snagged the picture off Pinterest. Looks like it DOES have some sag in the middle, but I think it could be stabilized more than the bare necessity of what it is showing now. Those wooden venetian blinds have some strength, but I'm sure the string/cord could be an issue with age. Still, it's an adventurous use of an item not normally thought of to be re-purposed. Other issues could be small children pulling on it , or a pet bumping it ( wagging Labrador tail, anyone? ), or someone trying to "adjust" the angle of the blades. I DO see problems with it as is, but it IS a cheap alternative display. Jerry Edited by 78Gremlin_GT, Jul 4 2014, 10:39 PM.

That is one definite outstanding display Crafty. To the max. I have seen so many styles, shapes, and sizes of display cases over the years and they all have one thing in common. They are expensive. I got into making my own several years back and found I could make 3 for the price I would have one. I spent about 150 dollars on a table saw, jug saw, power vib sander and some blades and materials and went to it. I made some super nice cases and sold several to get my money back for the tools. That worked out great. Now I can make my cases for the floor or wall and make them to fit whatever I am displaying... I don't blame or gripe about prices the guys charge, cause there is a lot of labor involved and I believe they are worth every penny they ask, especially like the one you bought crafty. It is gorgeous, but that plexiglass is a bear to work with. You got a great deal I think for sure. Here's some of the cases I have built from wood for my special displays... ![]() ![]() ![]() These shadowbox style are easy to make any size: ![]() I have around 30 dollars in these 2 floor cases with plexiglass fronts in them... ![]() I'm glad to see ya score such a sweet case Crafty, but if ya wanna get 3-4 times worth for your money you can build your own. If I can learn, anyone can...LOL Congrats Crafty!!! |

I had a ruined Matchbox 72-car case that was so torn on the inside, it was useless. I took the trays out, and set them on the shelf, then filled it with my models. |

Stangfreak, that is quite a feat of workmanship you put into crafting your own displays! It's not so much the money, as the SPACE to set up the wood-working equipment, that I don't have. You need room to create, and I don't have it. And I'm not a perfectionist, which you need to almost be to get woodworking right, level, and even. I work better with metals and plastics, but I can do wood, with some patience. I made an O gauge train display out of a kitchen drawer unit, but not sure I could do repeat work on multiple shelves like you did. Great work there! Below is the O gauge train display I built for a friend of mine a month ago, to show off his Marx trains. Jerry ![]()

I mentioned in my most recent flea market score thread that I bought another display case from the same vendor as before. I got it up on Sunday and filled it in this evening. It looks fairly decent and is nice not to have to dust all these things on a quarterly basis or more. ![]() ![]() ![]()

Here's another display option, my wife just bought one of these, and I thought Hmmm...She said they come in wider widths, too. They nail polish display racks, one way they have recessed shelves, but lay it the OTHER way,and the shelf is flat...perfect for diecast vehicles. She said it was $11.99, but the shipping cost as much. Oi. But not a bad display or price, really. I did a quick Google search on Nail polish display stand, and found them easily. The nice thing is that even most trucks will fit under the overhand, the one with the grey rack of stuff on top did not, but not many of your diecasts will have roof junk, either! I'm rather impressed with it myself. Would be pricey for many of them, but a nice staggered display arrangement nontheless. Jerry ![]() ![]()

I have several Carney cases with the mirrored backs and like Crafty said, I didn't really like that so with my latest case for Mb transitional Superkings I bought a large thick sheet of construction paper and cut it into the proper size strips and using glue dots I was able to easily attach the strips to the backing. Much easier to see the models really, without all the room being reflected. I was surprised and pleased with the results. A trick to hanging them is to remove the hinged lid too and I use toggle bolts and rubber washers to put them where I want. |
