Today's car truck is Summer's Isuzu TXD23F fire truck.

Wikipedia.com

A fire apparatus (also known in some territories as a fire engine, fire truck, or fire appliance) is a vehicle designed to assist in firefighting and other rescue operations. Its functions include transporting firefighters to the scene of a fire, along with water and other equipment. In some territories, the terms fire engine and fire truck may represent different types of fire apparatus. A typical modern fire apparatus carries equipment for a wide range of firefighting and rescue tasks. These include ladders, pike poles, axes and cutting equipment, halligan bars, ventilating equipment, floodlights, hose ramps, self-contained breathing apparatus, and general tools. Many fire apparatus are based on standard truck or lorry models with heavy duty suspension, alternators, transmission and cooling systems; audible and visual warnings such as sirens, horns, and flashing lights are added, as well as communication equipment such as a two-way radio.

Bad Joke

There was a fire and a blonde called the fire dept. The Fire Department asked how to get to her house. She replied, "DUH! Big Red Truck!"

This came in a multi-piece set distributed by Polyfect Toys of Hong Kong. I'm about 90% sure this fire truck is a Summer cause there was also an AMC Matador police sedan included in the same set. It would appear in my view that Summer took a basic early 50s American Ford truck and adopted quad headlights plus a grill from circa 1958. '58 was the first model year that American companies used quad headlights. It measures 3.75" from front bumper to back.

It was purchased several years ago at a Family Dollar store.

Fire apparatus are often adapted to their areas of operation. Fire departments covering metropolitan areas or regions with additional fire risks may operate additional specialist vehicles for dealing with hazardous material incidents, fires requiring major foam attacks and multiple hose laying, as well as urban search and rescue and water rescues. In rural areas, fire departments may operate all-terrain apparatus. Depending on the local geography, fire-trains, fireboats or airplanes may also be used. In addition to apparatus designed specifically to fight fire, many fire departments also operate rescue units that carry tools for technical rescues of people from traffic collisions or structural collapses.

It does seem to have some early-mid 50s Ford influence, with an open cab layout. The grill reminds me of mid 50s Dodge. Certainly not a common layout, even for a Fire Engine.

It is a Isuzu TXD23F! A copy of a Tomica Dandy casting, with a few modifications.

This one is a head-scratcher for me. I'm not so sure it is in fact a Summer, but I don't have one, and don't have a theory on who else may have made it.

I think Peter is most likely right as to the model. It's a cheapie version of the Tomica.

This is the card and other items included with the fire truck.

It is indeed a Summer. I had an earlier version of the casting that had the same metal parts on the side of the interior openings as the Tomica had. I believe it was an early Summer casting, so early that it may have had the short-lived deer logo on the base.

Sure wish I still had that model to confirm it.

Mine just has the ubiquitous 'Made in China' on the base.

That AMC is undeniable as Summer, and the "Mega..." packaging with that particular design/font has known ties to Summer (Mega Toys, Mega Racer...and I strongly suspect the Mega Speed name had ties to (if not direct ownership by) Summer.

I have one of the early versions of this fire engine with the deer logo on the base and the number S-8116. Mine is made in Hong Kong and all red with no tampo.

I found one recently, picked it up because it was a JDM Isuzu fire truck, took it apart, and it is mid-rebuild now who knows where. :(

New casting? Quick! Take it apart!
Amazing that such an obscure casting (and subject) can get so many responses. Indeed, another reason why this is a very good and useful website for the diecast collector. And best of all, everyone here seems to have a great sense of humor about this hobby.
Thanks you all here at Swifty's.

And thank you John for the confirmation. I guess I need to put one of these on my want-list!

Dean - I have all four of the fire trucks with the deer logo and S- numbers in my collection. I think that is the neat thing about this site - it is not just about Hot Wheels or Matchbox - it covers all the brands and a lot of good stuff on the older brands like Summer and Playart and many others.
