The Ford Ranchero was a coupe utility produced between 1957 and 1979. Unlike a pickup truck, the Ranchero was adapted from a two-door station wagon platform that integrated the cab and cargo bed into the body. A total of 508,355 units were produced during the model's production run. It was adapted from full-size, compact and intermediate automobiles by the Ford Motor Company for the North American market.

The Ford Ranchero sold well enough to spawn a competitor from General Motors in 1959, the Chevy El Camino.

The 385-series V8 (the 429 for 1972-73; the 460 for 1974-76) was still available. However, all suffered from lower compression ratios to better meet new emissions standards. The 351 cu in (5.8 L) Cleveland could still be obtained in tuned 4-V Cobra Jet form through 1974. A four-speed manual transmission was available on Cobra Jet-powered GT models.

I like Rancheros, and the '72 was always one of my favorites!

I think Hot Wheels has taken a bit of liberty as they typically do with the body lines, but overall for a buck I'm not complaining.

Not one of my favorites from Hot Wheels' recent offerings. It's a really narrow casting with a really large set of rear wheel wells - so even the $uper version in purple didn't look that good.

New casting? Quick! Take it apart!
Same feelings here. I bought the first one out and haven't bought any others. Too bad, it could have made a great custom. Why did HW make it so small compared to their other castings??

Big'n'littles is HW stock in trade, so that doesn't surprise me in the least. What got to me is the severe chop to the top, it is almost comically short. I think this zamac version looks better than most I've seen, I think I may have one other from the Classics 5 series.
