Before my most recent trip I received a box with some more Korean fire engines. Some I already had and they will show up on the sale forum later.

Very nice John, it's funny how even a lesser known brand like Pioneer can do nice models with graphics for other countries, but Mattel can't allow it for the Mbx brand, although, it almost seems Pioneer has been using much the same castings for many years, like Maisto does, so maybe they can better afford to do it, but I like them anyway.

Pioneer doesn't ask anybody for licensing or permission, so they can get away with doing just about whatever they want. Chinese companies without corporate headquarters in countries with copyright laws....

That van appears to be a casting I've not seen before. Cool!

Good old Pioneer, as brazen as ever when it comes to their "unlicensed generic castings". I have quite a lot of Pioneer models in my collection as they offer something a bit different to most of the big companies. I have never seen this Korean livery before but both Mercedes-Benz van and Mack fire engine can be found easily in other emergency services colours.

I remember reading somewhere that Pioneer ripped-off Matchbox's Mercedes News van for that casting, they just altered it a little.

(not my photo)

They also did the same thing to the fire engine, also originally by Matchbox:

I don't know about the Mercedes van but the Gloster Saro based fire engine above was certainly a copy of the Matchbox version. Hang on I recognise that pic, its one of my models on Flikr! lol

Pioneer also released a "new" set of fire apparatus last year (2013) that is excruciatingly difficult to find (ie, I can't find them anywhere). Not even sure what scale they are, but the sets come in police AND fire dept liveries with the same two fire engines: a close facsimile of a Rosenbauer Panther ARFF, and something looking a lot like a late-model Scania city engine. I would post a photo from the Pioneer website but not sure if the rules prohibit using stock mfr photos "without permission".

As I understand copyright and plagiarism laws, as long as the "quote" is brief and for educational purposes, and the author is credited (I post a reference link), then we should be good to go. No one here is copying to profit.
