Amercom's 2005 M142 HIMARS (High Mobility Artillery Rocket System) from Stampede's collection is the truck for today.

Wikipedia.com

The M142 High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS) is a U.S. light multiple rocket launcher mounted on a standard Army Medium Tactical Vehicle (MTV) truck frame.

The HIMARS carries six rockets or one MGM-140 ATACMS missile on the U.S. Army's new Family of Medium Tactical Vehicles (FMTV) five-ton truck, and can launch the entire Multiple Launch Rocket System Family of Munitions (MFOM). HIMARS is interchangeable with the MLRS M270A1, carrying half the rocket load.

The launcher is C-130 transportable. The chassis is produced by BAE Systems Mobility & Protection Systems (formerly Armor Holdings Aerospace and Defense Group Tactical Vehicle Systems Division), the OEM of the FMTV. The rocket launching system is produced by Lockheed Martin Missiles & Fire Control.

This model of the HIMARS is in 1/72 scale, which is a perfect fit for my military collection. It was a bonus to see this model already pre-built, as this is one of the first HIMARS models in 1/72 scale, and no details were compromised with it being pre-built. The cab is metal, while the rest of the model is made of plastic, and the tires are rubber. Plastic was even used on the chassis, however it makes the model quite light and very intricately detailed, as all the drivetrain details were represented. On the rear of the model, there is a holder for the rocket pod, and that holder can rotate 360 degrees and is capable of moving up and down via a hinge. Additionally, this model is of the first generation HIMARS models, as newer models have an additional ballistics protection kit for the cab.

The purpose of HIMARS is to engage and defeat artillery, air defence concentrations, trucks, light armour and personnel carriers, as well as support troop and supply concentrations. HIMARS launches its weapons and moves away from the area at high speed before enemy forces locate the launch site.

Awesome! That's only the second *strictly* military vehicle I believe has been featured, not counting military ambulances that have civilian counterparts, and the other being a Corgi Halftrack. This looks very well detailed.

Now that is different and not something you see in COTD. Someplace, tucked away in all my stuff I have a Russian made Scud Missile Launcher.

Thanks for posting this one, Zach. My reasoning for picking this particular model is that I thought it to be a very unique and interesting model that people who collect diecast might not know about.

I am very, very glad to have this in my collection, and I am even more glad to be presented the opportunity to show it!
