Today's car of the day is Pilen's 1977 Seat 131 Familiar.

Wikipedia

The SEAT 131 is a small/medium family car produced by the Spanish car manufacturer SEAT from 1975 to the middle of 1984. The SEAT 131 was presented on May 1975 in the Barcelona Motor Show. With SEAT having formed a partnership with Fiat, the SEAT 131 was a model based on the Fiat 131 a car presented nine months earlier in Turin, however the Spanish model was adapted to the needs and the specifications of the Spanish market. The SEAT 131 started its making in early 1975 in Barcelona and up to the end of its production life cycle 412,948 units were produced.

A Spanish car, replicated by a Spanish toy maker, and decked out as a Spanish Fire Chief (Jefe Bomberos) - how cool is that? This wagon arrived in my collection around 1999 or so, with a group of others, all unopened in their original packages, and even unopened, the paint loss to the black painted bases appears to be somewhat common. By the way, the interior is metal, and is the same mold as the base. It is a heavy little toy car.

Wikipedia

Two sedan versions were offered: the SEAT 131 L, featuring rectangular front lamps, 1,438 cc OHC engine and four-speed gearbox, and the SEAT 131 E which featured four round headlamps, a 1,592 cc DOHC engine, and a five-speed gearbox. The range grew up in the spring of 1976 with the SEAT 131 5 puertas unofficially known as the SEAT 131 Familiar, which was the estate version offered with both engines. In 1977 the 131 Automatico (Automatic gearbox) was released and the following year a very short production of the SEAT 131 CLX 1800 was offered. Spain was the only place where the estate 131 was built, but in the export these were labelled Fiat 131 Familiare.

Support your local demo derby.

Toy makers that design and build models of 1/1 cars in their own country are quite rare now. At one point ERTL made toys in Iowa, SIku in Germany, Majorette in France and Tomica in Japan. It was always a cool treat to flip a car over to see on the base where it was made at and imagine the people that made it.

That is cool! I have no representatives of the Spanish diecast makers yet in my collection, I may have to remedy that one day soon.
