Just thought I'd post something a little different than the normal diecast cars. Not that I collect many diecast toy aircraft, but when I found this at a flea market some years ago I thought it was kind of neat, having the foreign livery and all.

Chinook was always a bit of an odd duck anyway...but that looks to me like maybe Japan Defence Force markings? That would seem a rather odd combo...

The Japanese Ground Self Defense Force does have Chinooks in their vehicle fleet.

Great find! I wonder if this has anything to do with Vietnam War? Looks like 1970's?

It's the "banana boat". That is awesome to see it with the Japanese markings - I have one with M*A*S*H markings.

It is indeed in JDF livery. Looks like a great piece, as I have always liked the Chinook!

Thanks guys!

Seber, I don't think Japan had much to do with the Vietnam war, other than pushing for it to end, although CH47 Chinooks were used in combat for the first time in 1965 during the Vietnam war for the US Military.

I was about to add, the Chinook never seen service in Korea .

the flying banana was a reference to another helo used in Vietnam, by Paseki i believe.

love the Japanese markings, have not seen one like that, and the text on the box seems to show it was not for the US market directly

is it Hong Kong or China on the base Doug ??

a very cool looking model, if i'm correct, the rotors also fold back onto the rotor hub for ramp storage

Hey Mike, best I remember it is HK base, almost positive, I believe these boxed models are pretty old.

Picked it up at Webster flea market maybe 6-7 years ago, the guy had like a box full, many different planes, I only got this and a Space Shuttle for my collection for a couple dollars each, my friend bought the rest to sell on ebay, it seems they had some value neither of us realized, he made a lot off of them selling them individually, averaging in the teens to $20+ each, a few getting $40-$60.

I saw Chinook, and automatically I thought of the Toyota Hilux-cabbed camper unit from the '70s. My bad!

No it was Eric, I think you may have met him one time when I saw you and Jimmy out there at Webster one year, he was probably wearing this same Indiana Jones hat as in the pic.
